Job Summary
We are seeking a Network L2 Engineer to provide advanced operational support for Fleet Services-owned data center network infrastructure. This role is the technical escalation point for network cases that exceed L1 runbooks and is responsible for deeper diagnosis, authorized remediation, validation, and high-quality escalation to AMD network architecture, SRE, AMD IT, Information Security, or vendor teams.
The engineer will help turn domain knowledge into repeatable procedures so that common issues can be resolved safely at L1 while complex or novel issues reach the correct owner with complete evidence.
Key Responsibilities
THE PERSON
You are a hands-on network engineer who troubleshoots from evidence, understands high-availability data center fabrics, and communicates findings with precision. You balance restoration speed with change discipline and are comfortable working across infrastructure, security, storage, compute, and automation teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and operate Fleet Services-owned front-side, back-end, and management network infrastructure within approved scope.
- Perform L2 diagnosis using telemetry, logs, topology, configuration state, reachability tests, traffic-path analysis, and documented health checks.
- Validate L1 evidence, reproduce issues where practical, determine likely fault domains, and define the next technical action or escalation.
- Execute approved remediation and changes in accordance with runbooks, access controls, maintenance windows, and AMD change-management requirements.
- Document symptoms, affected assets, business impact, diagnostics, actions, results, escalation rationale, and validation evidence in Jira.
- Coordinate with AMD IT for WAN, SD-WAN, firewall, IPAM, Infoblox, and corporate-network dependencies that remain outside Fleet Services operational ownership.
- Support vendor escalation for network hardware or software issues and provide the technical evidence required for effective engagement.
- Develop and maintain network SOPs, troubleshooting decision trees, topology references, inventory records, and operational runbooks.
- Train and enable SRE L1 Generalists, review escalations for quality, and identify candidates for automation or shift-left resolution.
- Participate in incident response, post-incident analysis, capacity and reliability reviews, and continuous improvement of alert quality.

- Working knowledge of Linux networking, DNS, DHCP, PXE/TFTP, NTP, and identity or access dependencies used by bare-metal infrastructure.
- Ability to automate diagnostics or operational tasks using Python, Ansible, APIs, or version-controlled workflows.
- Experience creating network diagrams, knowledge articles, runbooks, and evidence-based escalation packages.
- Familiarity with high-performance fabrics, RDMA, RoCE, or InfiniBand is beneficial.
- Relevant Arista or Cisco certification is beneficial.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
