This is a hands-on engagement for an accomplished engineer who can rapidly understand a complex enterprise environment, take ownership of difficult delivery challenges and leave the platform stronger, more automated and easier to support. Singularity is DHL Supply Chain’s strategic data platform initiative: a standardised, multi regional data lakehouse providing a trusted foundation for onboarding operational data. It brings data from multiple source systems into a governed environment, applies shared data and reference models, and enables consistent reporting, analytics, reusable data products and scalable delivery across customers, sites and business functions. The engagement will operate across two connected phases: accelerating current Singularity onboarding and delivery, followed by platform modernisation, optimisation and automation. Engagement Objectives
- Increase delivery capacity and momentum across the Singularity onboarding roadmap.
- Resolve complex ingestion, transformation, validation and deployment challenges.
- Improve operational readiness, supportability, documentation and engineering controls.
- Accelerate modernisation within Azure Databricks and strengthen platform scalability.
- Embed repeatable automation and engineering practices that provide sustainable value beyond the engagement. Key Responsibilities Phase 1 - Singularity Onboarding & Delivery Support
- Lead and accelerate onboarding activities across operational and customer data sources.
- Engineer and troubleshoot ingestion, transformation and orchestration pipelines using Python, PySpark and SQL.
- Perform data validation, reconciliation and quality assurance through test and production deployment.
- Resolve data mapping, schema, pipeline and source-quality issues while maintaining delivery momentum.
- Strengthen onboarding processes, technical documentation, deployment controls and operational handover.
- Work effectively with technology, analytics and business stakeholders, communicating risks, dependencies and decisions clearly. Phase 2 - Platform Modernisation & Automation
- Support migration and optimisation activities within Azure Databricks, Delta Lake and wider lakehouse architectures.
- Design reusable, metadata-driven and automation-led approaches to data ingestion and transformation.
- Improve pipeline performance, scalability, maintainability and cost-conscious engineering.
- Enhance monitoring, alerting, data-quality controls, troubleshooting and operational support.
- Contribute pragmatic standards for coding, testing, deployment, governance and platform sustainability.
- Support the transition from specialist knowledge and manual intervention towards repeatable, supportable engineering patterns. Required Experience
- Senior-level data engineering experience.
- Proven delivery of production-grade data solutions.
- Strong Azure and Databricks expertise.
- Experience designing, building and supporting scalable data platforms.
- Data modelling, pipeline optimisation and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with migration and transformation programmes. Candidates should also demonstrate strong problem-solving, independent ownership, comfort with ambiguity, excellent stakeholder engagement and a pragmatic delivery mindset.
