Digital Producer
DIGITAL PRODUCER
The Times Union newsroom is seeking an enterprising, audience-focused and versatile journalist to manage and create content serving New York’s Capital Region and beyond. Producers curate and package stories from multiple sources, including the editorial staff, and publish across all digital platforms, including our website, app, newsletters, video and social media accounts.
Your duties on the team:
Plan for, post and package stories on Times Union platforms. This requires sharp news judgment and fluency with real-time analytics. Tasks include adding links, photos and other related assets to stories, and sending breaking news emails and app alerts.
Edit video clips to produce content that can quickly be shared via social media and embedded into stories.
Help manage newsletter campaigns and social media accounts.
Monitor and act on website analytics, making content decisions that drive audience trust and growth.
Write compelling headlines for digital audiences, optimized for search engines and social platforms.
Contribute to digital projects, including photo galleries, restaurant guides, real estate spotlights and more. Work with digital project managers, editors and writers on innovative packages and new ways of storytelling.
Skills you bring to the team:
Working knowledge of tactics to maximize reach and build an audience.
Understanding of best practices for audience engagement and the ability to implement that knowledge.
Basic video editing skills. Experience with Adobe Premiere and/or Canva is a plus.
Idea generation and collaboration: Keep fresh ideas flowing and work with others to shape ideas into compelling stories that connect with readers across the region.
Excellent writing and communication chops.
Top-notch organization skills, ensuring audience needs and deadlines are met.
Requirements:
Familiarity with AP Style and some news writing experience.
Awareness of media standards around fair use and accurate citation for content.
Knowledge of web and social media analytics tools, content management systems and search optimization platforms.
Experience editing video for social media platforms.
Basic knowledge of HTML.
Sound news judgment and strong understanding of local content.
Ability to work effectively in a small organization that emphasizes teamwork.
Demonstrated success working in a deadline-driven environment.
Proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks and/or projects.
This is a full-time role and includes working one weekend day. Other shifts or hours may be required as news warrants.

The Salary Range for this role is $56K-$64K if hired into the state of NY and based on experience and skill set.
