Purpose of the Role

The Manager, Credit & Accounts Receivable is responsible for leading the company's Credit and Accounts Receivable functions, with overall accountability for customer credit risk management, timely collection of receivables, credit policy administration, dispute resolution, and AR reporting.

This role will lead and develop the Credit and AR teams while partnering closely with Sales, Finance, Customer Service, and other cross-functional stakeholders. The Manager will balance supporting commercial growth and customer relationships with appropriate management of credit exposure, working capital, and collection risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Credit and Accounts Receivable teams and oversee day-to-day operations across both functions.
  • Drive timely collection of customer receivables and actively manage AR aging, past-due balances, and collection performance.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate credit limits and payment terms for new and existing customers based on financial information, payment history, and other relevant risk factors.
  • Evaluate customer creditworthiness and monitor changes in customer financial condition and payment behavior to proactively identify potential credit risks.
  • Oversee customer order holds and releases, balancing commercial needs with the company's credit policies and risk exposure.
  • Partner closely with Sales and other business teams to address customer credit issues, held orders, payment concerns, and other matters that could impact customer relationships or sales.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of customer payment discrepancies, deductions, disputes, and other AR-related issues.
  • Maintain and administer company credit policies and procedures and recommend updates as business needs and risk conditions evolve.
  • Provide timely and meaningful AR, collections, and credit-risk reporting to Finance, Executive Leadership, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify higher-risk or deteriorating customer accounts and recommend appropriate actions to management, including changes to credit limits or terms, collection actions, and other risk-mitigation measures.
  • Develop, coach, and manage team members; identify capability and development needs and lead hiring activities as necessary.
  • Identify and lead process improvements across Credit and AR, partnering with cross-functional teams to simplify, standardize, and improve business processes, controls, and productivity.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders while serving as the primary escalation point for significant Credit and AR matters.
  • Lead special projects and assume additional responsibilities as required by company leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Credit, Accounts Receivable, Collections, or related finance functions, including supervisory or people-management experience.
  • Strong understanding of customer credit analysis, collections, AR management, and credit-risk principles.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively partner with customers, Sales, Finance, and senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to take ownership and drive issues to resolution.
  • Experience working with ERP systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Continuous-improvement mindset with the ability to identify opportunities to simplify and strengthen processes.
