Senior Engineer - Microsoft

We are looking for an experienced Microsoft Enterprise Engineer (L3) to join a growing Microsoft Modern Work Practice. This is a senior technical role suited to an engineer who can take ownership of complex escalations, lead enterprise-level implementations and migrations, design technical solutions, and provide mentorship to junior engineering teams.
The successful candidate must bring extensive hands-on experience across both traditional Microsoft infrastructure and modern cloud technologies. Cloud-only experience will not be sufficient for this position. Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

• Provide L3 technical support, advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across Microsoft on-premises, hybrid and cloud environments.
• Design, architect and implement Microsoft enterprise infrastructure solutions.
• Lead complex Microsoft 365, Azure and Windows Server deployments, upgrades and migrations.
• Manage escalated technical incidents and ensure timely resolution of complex client issues.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to L1 and L2 engineers.
• Drive Microsoft Modern Workplace implementations, including Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams and Microsoft Defender.
• Oversee identity and access management, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID and hybrid identity solutions.
• Develop PowerShell scripts and automation to improve operational efficiency.
• Establish technical standards, documentation and best-practice procedures.
• Participate in client technical engagements, solution design reviews and pre-sales scoping.
• Ensure technical delivery aligns with Microsoft best practices, security standards and ITIL frameworks.

Minimum Requirements

• 8–10 years' experience in IT infrastructure support, enterprise engineering and project deployments.
• Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience with on-premises Windows Server infrastructure.
• Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience with Microsoft 365.
• Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Proven L3 experience handling complex escalations and enterprise infrastructure environments.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to L1/L2 engineers.
• Strong client-facing implementation and technical support experience.
• Matric (Grade 12).
• ITIL Foundation certification.
• Excellent English communication skills.

Mandatory Microsoft Certifications Candidates must hold the following certifications:

• AZ-104 – Azure Administrator Associate.
• MS-102 – Microsoft 365 Administrator.
• MD-102 – Endpoint Administrator Associate.
• SC-300 – Identity and Access Administrator Associate.

Highly Desirable Certifications:

• AZ-305 – Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
• SC-100 – Cybersecurity Architect Expert.
• AZ-700 – Azure Network Engineer Associate.
• MS-700 – Managing Microsoft Teams.
• AZ-800 / AZ-801 – Windows Server Hybrid Administrator.

Technical Expertise Required 1. Windows Server & Enterprise Infrastructure

• Windows Server 2012 R2–2025.
• Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and DFS.
• NPS, Certificate Services (PKI), File Services and Failover Clustering.
• Hyper-V and IIS.
• Exchange Server and enterprise infrastructure administration.

2. Microsoft Azure & Cloud Infrastructure

• Azure Virtual Networks, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute and Network Security Groups.
• Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Virtual Desktop and Azure Storage.
• Azure Backup and Site Recovery.
• Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Policy and Azure Arc.
• Azure SQL, App Services and Key Vault.

3. Microsoft 365 & Modern Workplace

• Microsoft 365 administration.
• Exchange Online and Exchange Hybrid.
• Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
• Microsoft Intune, Autopilot and Modern Endpoint Management.
• Microsoft Defender, Purview and compliance management.

4. Identity, Security & Access Management

• Microsoft Entra ID and Hybrid Identity.
• Conditional Access, MFA, Identity Protection and PIM.
• RBAC, Zero Trust and identity governance.
• Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Office 365 and Cloud Apps.

5. Automation & Scripting

• Advanced PowerShell scripting.
• Microsoft Graph PowerShell.
• Azure Automation and Logic Apps.
• REST API integrations and workflow automation.

Advantageous Experience

• Previous experience within a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment.
• RMM solutions and Freshservice or similar ITSM platforms.
• Backup and recovery solutions such as Veeam and Dropsuite.
• Legacy Microsoft certifications, including MCSE, MCSA, MCITP or MCP.
• Strong understanding of networking, network security and ITSM/ITIL frameworks.
