Iberdrola is a Spanish utility founded in 1901 that became one of the largest renewable energy operators in the world, having decided in the early 2000s to build wind and hydro capacity while most European utilities were still committed to fossil generation. It operates regulated electricity networks in Spain, the United Kingdom through ScottishPower, the United States through Avangrid and Brazil through Neoenergia, alongside a very large renewable generation fleet including offshore wind. Headquartered in Bilbao and listed in Madrid, it now earns the majority of profit from regulated networks rather than from selling power.

Job Title - Senior Project Engineer - SCADA

Location - Currie or Motherwell

Salary + benefits - from £55,000 to £68,750

Help us create a better future, quicker

Join SP Transmission as a Senior Project Engineer - SCADA and play a vital role in maintaining and developing the operational technology that keeps Scotland's electricity transmission network running smoothly. This position sits at the heart of our Network Operations team, where you'll be accountable for approximately 180 SCADA systems across the entire SPT network. With an annual budget of £1 million, you'll deliver critical infrastructure that directly enables Scotland's Net Zero goals by 2044. This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge operational technology while contributing to the rapid growth of renewable energy integration across our transmission network.

What you'll be doing

  • You'll maintain, develop and operate SPT's operational SCADA assets across the transmission network, ensuring reliable performance and continuous improvement. Working within a technical team, you'll create SCADA configurations from implementation through to testing and on-site commissioning, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • You'll provide operational fault response for SCADA faults and defects, interfacing directly with the Operations Control Centre to optimise system performance and minimise network disruption. Your role includes delivering change-process performance to both internal and external stakeholders while maintaining strong relationships across all departmental interfaces.
  • You'll contribute technical expertise to Major Projects by providing feedback into SCADA specifications, ensuring new installations meet operational requirements. Managing time and resources effectively, you'll work closely with peers across Transmission Network Operations to deliver tactical operational plans that meet RIIO price-control period goals.

What you'll bring

  • You'll have significant experience working with SCADA systems on power transmission networks, with thorough knowledge of industry-standard SCADA protocols and protocol-emulation tools. Your background in Transmission and Distribution operations will enable you to navigate the complexities of network management systems effectively.
  • You'll possess well-developed communication skills that enable you to work effectively with technical teams, operational staff, and external partners including NESO, equipment vendors, and framework contractors. Your ability to devise solutions to complex technical problems will be essential to your effectiveness in this role.
  • You'll bring knowledge of network and business data systems, coupled with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within budget and timeline constraints. Your practical approach to problem-solving and focus on maintaining high standards will ensure the continued reliability of critical operational infrastructure.

What's in it for you

As well as an attractive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we'll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
