Overview
Iberdrola is a Spanish utility founded in 1901 that became one of the largest renewable energy operators in the world, having decided in the early 2000s to build wind and hydro capacity while most European utilities were still committed to fossil generation. It operates regulated electricity networks in Spain, the United Kingdom through ScottishPower, the United States through Avangrid and Brazil through Neoenergia, alongside a very large renewable generation fleet including offshore wind. Headquartered in Bilbao and listed in Madrid, it now earns the majority of profit from regulated networks rather than from selling power.
