IBM

IBM is an American technology company whose roots go back to the 1911 formation of the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company, and which has been headquartered in Armonk, New York for decades. It defined mainframe computing, the personal computer standard and much of enterprise data processing, and today concentrates on hybrid cloud built around Red Hat, enterprise AI through the watsonx platform, consulting services and the mainframe and storage systems that still run the world's largest transaction workloads. The company also runs one of the leading quantum computing programmes and consistently ranks among the largest recipients of United States patents.

As an IBM Consulting FutureNow Center Intern, you'll work alongside experienced professionals to help solve real business and technology challenges for clients around the world. You'll gain hands-on experience, build in-demand technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects while learning in a collaborative, team-based environment. This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that prepares students for a potential full-time career with IBM Consulting upon graduation. At IBM, you'll learn from experienced technology professionals while gaining hands-on experience with Salesforce application development and consulting practices. During your internship, you may have opportunities to:

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with cross-functional teams to learn how requirements are gathered, support the definition of technical solutions, and contribute to project delivery under the guidance of experienced professionals.
  • Support Solution Design & Documentation: Assist in preparing technical specifications and documenting design decisions to support effective communication and collaboration.
  • Contribute to High-Quality Software: Develop and test code with guidance, participate in code reviews, and learn software quality practices that support scalable, reusable solutions.
  • Develop Salesforce Applications: Contribute to Salesforce-based customer relationship management (CRM) solutions and customer engagement platforms across sales, service, and marketing, while learning to apply development practices that support user experience, performance, security, and quality. As part of the Business Applications / Salesforce practice, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the development of Salesforce CRM solutions, customer engagement platforms, and sales, service, and marketing transformation initiatives. You don't need experience with every technology listed. Many interns join IBM with a foundation in computer science, software engineering, or related technical disciplines and develop specialized expertise through mentorship, structured learning, certifications, hands-on projects, and AI-enabled tools. Throughout your internship, you'll gain exposure to software engineering, cloud technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), DevOps, Agile, and Salesforce enterprise application development, while working with experienced engineers, architects, and technology professionals on real client projects across multiple industries. We're not looking for experts; we hire for potential, curiosity, and a passion for learning. High-performing interns may be considered for full-time Associate opportunities following graduation, based on business needs and individual performance. To give yourself the best opportunity for success, we advise applying only to roles that align with your skills and experience, rather than applying broadly across all entry-level positions. You’ll receive a status update email for each application, so be sure to check your IBM Careers account regularly - it’s the best way to get a centralized view of which roles you have active applications against. The primary internship program dates are May to July 2027 (10 weeks). Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Interest in software development, application engineering, cloud technologies, Artificial Intelligence, automation, or digital transformation. Basic understanding of programming concepts and experience with at least one programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, C++, or similar technologies. Basic understanding of software development principles, object-oriented programming, algorithms, data structures, databases, APIs, and problem-solving concepts. Exposure to software development, web development, cloud technologies, databases, or technical problem-solving through coursework, academic projects, hackathons, student organizations, research, open-source contributions, or personal learning. Awareness of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, automation, cybersecurity, and modern software engineering practices. Experience gained through academic projects, internships, hackathons, student organizations, research, volunteer experiences, IBM SkillsBuild, certifications, or other practical learning opportunities. You don't need to be an expert to get started. We're looking for individuals with a strong foundation, a growth mindset, and a desire to learn and make an impact. Bring your curiosity. Grow your skills. Build what's next, like an IBMer. Exposure to software development, cloud technologies, web applications, enterprise platforms, or modern application development through coursework, student projects, hackathons, research, open-source contributions, or internship experiences. Familiarity with Git, APIs, databases, Agile development, DevOps concepts, cloud platforms, user interface frameworks, or software engineering best practices. Interest in Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, automation, enterprise application development, consulting, and continuous learning. Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates while supporting application modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
