It operates globally through a network of reference laboratories and sales offices, serving customers in over 175 countries and maintaining a listing on the NASDAQ Stock Market.

Join IDEXX's Veterinary Reference Laboratory team and play a key role in delivering high-quality diagnostic testing services that support animal health, disease management, and livestock industries across Australia. This casual opportunity is ideal for a laboratory professional, recent science graduate, or university student looking to build hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-throughput laboratory environment. You will work within our Serology team, supporting a range of diagnostic testing services while ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of results. This role offers flexibility, with additional hours available during peak testing periods and large-scale testing projects.

Why this role matters:

Every test performed in our laboratory helps veterinarians, producers, and industry partners make informed decisions that protect animal health and support agricultural industries. As part of our Serology team, you will contribute to the delivery of accurate and reliable diagnostic results while supporting critical testing programs, including infectious disease surveillance, export certification, and livestock health initiatives. Your work will directly impact the quality, efficiency, and responsiveness of one of Australia's leading veterinary diagnostic laboratories.

In this role:

  • You will perform serology and immunology testing, including ELISA and Complement Fixation Testing (CFT), and accurately interpret quality control and test results.
  • You will process, prepare, and analyse diagnostic samples while meeting quality standards and turnaround time requirements.
  • You will support infectious disease serology, antibody detection assays, bovine milk pregnancy testing, and live animal export serology testing programs where required.
  • You will review laboratory data, complete quality control activities, and maintain accurate records to ensure the highest level of data integrity.
  • You will assist with equipment operation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • You will contribute to high-volume testing programs and respond effectively to changing priorities, tight deadlines, and large contract workloads.
  • You will operate within laboratory quality management systems and accreditation requirements while ensuring compliance with established procedures and safety standards.
  • You may work with automated laboratory platforms and high-throughput testing systems, including Hamilton and Tecan automation technologies.

What you need to succeed:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, Immunology, Medical Laboratory Science, Veterinary Science, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline. Entry-level candidates and current science students are encouraged to apply.
  • You have knowledge of immunology, serology, diagnostic laboratory testing principles, and veterinary infectious disease testing.
  • You have experience performing and interpreting ELISA testing, with experience in Complement Fixation Testing (CFT) highly regarded.
  • You have strong attention to detail, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
  • You can effectively prioritise competing workloads and thrive in a fast-paced laboratory environment where testing volumes can change rapidly.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and enjoy working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • You have experience working within quality management systems and laboratory accreditation requirements.
  • Experience with Hamilton or Tecan automated liquid handling platforms, automated ELISA workflows, veterinary, biomedical, clinical or reference laboratories, assay validation and verification, bovine milk pregnancy testing, or live animal export serology testing will be highly regarded.

What you can expect from us:

  • Meaningful work that directly supports animal health, biosecurity, and agricultural industries.
  • Flexible casual employment with opportunities for additional hours during peak testing periods.
  • Exposure to specialized veterinary diagnostics, advanced laboratory technologies, and large-scale testing programs.
  • Ongoing training, development, and opportunities to expand your technical laboratory skills.
  • Access to IDEXX's global network of scientific expertise and career development opportunities.
  • A collaborative, inclusive, and safety-focused team environment where your contributions are valued.
  • Competitive compensation and the opportunity to work with a global leader in animal health diagnostics.
