IKEA is the global home furnishing brand founded in Sweden in 1943, and its main website is operated by Inter IKEA Systems, the worldwide IKEA franchisor based in Delft in the Netherlands. The wider Inter IKEA Group develops the product range and runs purchasing, supply and manufacturing operations, including IKEA Industry factories in Poland and Portugal, while franchisees such as Ingka Group operate IKEA stores worldwide. Its openings span production workers, forklift operators, maintenance and PLC technicians, design and embedded software engineers, business developers at purchasing offices, transport planners, finance staff and store co-workers.

IKEA Group brings together three core businesses: Retail Concept, Range and Supply. Together we work constantly to improve the IKEA offer and make it more accessible for the many people. IKEA Supply is responsible for securing that the product offer is produced and delivered to our customers. We lead the supply agenda across many functions and work together with all business areas, different business units, but also retail markets to secure customer availability in all markets and sales channels at lowest total cost.

Together we create a workplace where everyone feels free to be themselves, to experiment, try new ways, and dare to ask, “What if…?”. We believe in everyday personal growth and offer the opportunity to develop your career globally. At IKEA we have a vibrant culture where ideas are heard, where there is opportunity to learn new skills and where the goal always is “To create a better everyday life for the many people”. We give down-to-earth, straightforward people the possibility to grow, both as individuals and in their professional roles. We offer this position in a fast-paced, truly global environment with an endless supply of challenges and development opportunities.

As a Software Engineer in Digital Automation, you will design, develop, test, deploy and maintain high-quality software that enables automation and supports business outcomes across the IKEA value chain. You will work within an agile, cross-functional team and contribute across the full software lifecycle, from understanding needs and shaping solutions to operating and continuously improving them in production.

You will apply modern software engineering principles and use appropriate tools, automation and delivery practices to create secure, reliable, reusable and maintainable solutions. Within Digital Automation, your work may include workflow and process automation, integrations, APIs, low-code or pro-code extensions, data models, cloud services and AI-enabled capabilities. The exact technology focus will depend on the assigned product, platform or technology domain.

More specifically, in this role you will (be):

  • Develop and operate software for the assigned Digital Automation product, platform or technology domain, taking shared responsibility for quality throughout its lifecycle.
  • Deliver tested, deployable and maintainable code that supports agreed business outcomes, architectural principles and security requirements.
  • Apply and promote modern software engineering practices, including version control, code review, automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Work collaboratively in an agile, cross -functional team, contributing to planning, backlog refinement, delivery, maintenance and continuous improvement.
  • Create and evaluate solution proposals and prototypes, such as mock -ups, data models, integrations or proof -of -concept implementations.
  • Continuously explore relevant technologies, tools, standards and working methods that can improve innovation, productivity, reliability and user experience.
  • Produce and maintain appropriate technical documentation and proactively share knowledge, learning and good practices with colleagues.
  • Contribute to team and product performance indicators and work with colleagues to continuously improve delivery effectiveness and technical quality.

We are on the journey to transform our digital capabilities, bringing core business processes, people, data & technology together - an enabler for IKEA to become an even better home furnishing company in the future. A journey that needs passionate people who embrace change, dare to question and want to make a difference. If that sounds like you, come and join us. Together we can do great things.

  • Experience designing, implementing, testing, deploying and maintaining software solutions.
  • Experience working in agile software development teams with a DevOps working setup, self-organisation and delivery against agreed commitments.
  • Experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and culturally diverse teams.
  • Experience with digital automation, workflow solutions, integrations, APIs, cloud services, low-code platforms or AI-enabled solutions is an advantage.

Knowledge & Motivation:

  • Good knowledge of software engineering principles and modern development practices using industry-standard tools.
  • Good knowledge of design and architecture concepts, and the ability to follow agreed architectural, security and interoperability requirements.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant technologies, standards, protocols and interfaces, and the ability to apply them effectively.
