Job Summary / Purpose

We are seeking a Senior or Staff iOS Engineer to join the eAccounts Mobile Development team as an engineer on our iOS platform. In this role, you will help set technical direction for the eAccounts mobile app, used by millions of students, faculty, and staff to manage their campus accounts across university campuses, while mentoring engineers and raising the bar on engineering quality across the team.

Who you will work with:

You will work closely with the eAccounts Mobile Development team, reporting to Shane O'Connor. Day-to-day, you'll collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, backend engineers, and QA, and regularly engage with other senior stakeholders across the wider engineering organization. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, though you will have the opportunity to mentor and coach less experienced engineers across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain the application using Swift, SwiftUI and UIKit, with a strong command of the application architecture across the stack.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to build and ship features end-to-end, representing iOS engineering in cross-functional planning.
  • Perform code reviews and design reviews, set and uphold team best practices, and mentor other engineers through feedback and pairing.
  • Work with modern iOS tools and libraries (Swift Data, Async/Await, Combine), and evaluate emerging Apple technologies for their applicability to our platform.
  • Design and develop larger, more complex system components and features, working independently with limited oversight.
  • Monitor app performance and usage metrics to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues, ensuring the application meets performance, quality, and responsiveness standards.
  • Drive improvements to development processes, CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions & XCode Cloud) and tooling, and participate in interviews for new engineering candidates.
  • Strong understanding of Swift Package Manager and package development
  • Stay current with the latest iOS development trends, tools, and technologies, and bring that knowledge back to raise the bar for the team.

What You’ll Bring:

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in iOS development, with a demonstrated track record of technical ownership.
  • Strong knowledge of Swift and SwiftUI, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
  • Solid understanding of XCTest, UIKit, SwiftUI, Apple Frameworks and programmatic UIs.
  • In-depth understanding of object-oriented and protocol-oriented programming principles.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON and Network proxies.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and code collaboration platforms (e.g., GitHub).
  • Experience writing automated tests using XCTest and the iOS UI Test kit (XCUITest) to drive UI automation, ensuring application quality and preventing regressions.
  • Understanding of the full mobile development life cycle, including deployment and app store submission.
  • Excellent communication and fluency in written and spoken English are required.
  • The ability to interpret technical requirements and translate them into structured, actionable work tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the design and development of larger, more complex system components with limited supervision.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring other engineers, and comfortable leading code and design reviews.

Nice to haves:

  • Familiarity with Reactive Programming (e.g. Combine).
  • Experience maintaining and improving legacy codebase, with a focus on refactoring and best practices for modernization.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools, e.g. GitHub Actions, Xcode Cloud.
  • Familiarity with WCAG compliance guidelines and accessibility UX best
  • Experience owning product architecture and system-level design decisions, working with limited oversight from management.
  • Track record of influencing engineering standards, practices, or procedures beyond a single team.
  • Experience mentoring engineers at multiple levels of experience, including other senior engineers.

Competencies and Behaviors
