ROLE OVERVIEW
The Field Application Engineer idenpendently designs and delivers complex application solutions by translating customer needs into technically feasible, value-adding outcomes. Acting as a technical sales engineering partner, the role works closely with Sales, customers, design teams, and factories to define requirements, evaluate solution options, and select fit-for-purpose products and systems. The position combines strong application expertise and commercial awareness to ensure all technical deliverables are achieved within agreed scope, standards, and business objectives.
Location:remote/field-based within Northern Italy (Lombardy, Piemont, Trentino, Venetia)
Travel:3-4 days per week including overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a key technical partner to customers, understanding their challenges and tailoring solutions to meet their needs.
- Independently translate customer needs into standard application and project solutions.
- Proactively identify solution expansion and opportunities to cross-sell and upsell complementary solutions and products.
- Manage product selection, system configuration, and basic solution design.
- Develop complete technical solution packages including CAD, BOMs, and technical specifications.
- Participate in customer meetings alongside Sales and occasionally a Senior Application Engineer, contributing to long-term customer relationships by delivering consistent, high-quality technical advice.
- Visit customers regularly and partner with Key Account Managers and Strategic Account Managers to provide technical expertise and support key commercial activities.
- Ensure all solutions align with internal manufacturing capabilities and meet quality and cost expectations.
- Support quality-related investigations and documentation (e.g., RMA, deviations).
- Represent the company at trade shows, exhibitions, and customer-facing events when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical background).
- Proven experience in technical support, or application engineering, ideally in an industrial automation or manufacturing environment.
- Strong technical understanding of electro-mechanical components, pneumatic systems, and motion control principles.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear value propositions.
- Customer-centric mindset with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Collaborative and proactive approach; able to work effectively across teams and functions.
- Comfortable presenting technical solutions and training internal/external stakeholders.
- Fluent in English
- Willingness to travel within region
