This is a full-time position for our Clinic and Outreach teams.

Description

Works with provider(s) in an outpatient clinic under the supervision of the clinic/practice manager and provider(s). Performs duties associated with direct patient care in accordance with organization standards. Assesses, treats, and rehabilitates athletic injuries under the guidance of a licensed physician. Assists providers with in-office procedures, treatments, casting, patient education, and assuring efficient patient flow. Patient education will range from explaining next steps in the treatment plan to educating patients through a home exercise program or bracing. May perform computerized provider order entry per provider. Participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve set outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency.

Contributes to the planning and implementation of specific treatment and prevention programs for patients and student groups. Coordinates and provides sports medicine and/or rehabilitation services ensuring ordered procedures, treatments, and documentation are completed. Provides athletic training services for athletic, community, and outreach events. Builds relationships with patients, providers, schools, athletic programs, community organizations, and other outreach partners to support IU Health sports medicine and rehabilitation services.

Clinical Practice - Performs complete diagnostic evaluation of patients by administering the appropriate tests and measurements to determine level of impairment. Performs direct patient care services utilizing appropriate techniques and procedures as defined by the department. Develops a treatment plan based upon the evaluation, patient goals and goals established to optimize treatment and the recovery of the patients. Modifies treatment programs at regular intervals documenting patient progress and response to treatment. Provides education, training, and support to patient/family to assist with treatment requirements, discharge planning and home programming. Assists providers with in-office procedures, treatments, casting, bracing, and other direct patient care needs. May perform duties associated with symptom-management, direct in-clinic patient care, telehealth patient care, quality improvement activities, and other duties as assigned. Assists team leaders with scheduling and patient triage as needed. Strives to meet and exceed individual/patient/family and other customer expectations.

Outreach and Sports Medicine Services - Contributes to the planning and implementation of specific treatment and prevention programs for patients and student groups. Coordinates and provides sports medicine and/or rehabilitation services ensuring ordered procedures, treatments, and documentation are completed. Provides athletic training services for athletic, community, and outreach events. Supports relationships with schools, athletic programs, community organizations, providers, and other outreach partners. Identifies opportunities to educate and connect patients, student groups, and community partners with IU Health sports medicine and rehabilitation services.

Collaboration - Coordinates job activities with team members and leaders as required. Finds workable solutions that can be leveraged by other team members. Seeks out best practices for performing job duties. Participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve set outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency.

Training/Education - Develops an education plan or materials for patients, families, staff, student groups, or community partners based on individual learning priorities and evaluates effectiveness of education provided. Makes necessary adjustments based on response to plan.

Adaptability - Adapts to changes in job demands, work priorities, and organizational structure without adverse effects on job performance. Takes guidance and instruction from leaders and implements accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Master’s Degree from an accredited academic program in athletic training or a Bachelor’s Degree in athletic training prior to 2023.
  • Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Indiana State Athletic Training Licensure or eligible is required.
  • Must be a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or Red Cross Professional Rescuer is required.
