About the Role

This will be our first dedicated People Generalist hire in the US, providing an exciting opportunity to shape how we support and grow our US teams. You’ll join a relatively small but rapidly scaling US organisation, combining strategic People partnering with hands-on People Operations.

Working closely with US leaders, you’ll help build high-performing teams, strengthen our culture and establish scalable People practices as the business grows. You’ll be confident operating independently, influencing decision-making and taking ownership of the employee experience across the full lifecycle; from onboarding and engagement through to performance, development and employee relations.

This is a hybrid role based in Tampa and will work closely with our UK People team, so regular overlap with UK working hours will be required. The role reports to the VP of People.

What you’ll be doing

People Operations:

  • Act as the primary People contact for Sequoia One, managing day-to-day queries and coordinating payroll, benefits, onboarding, offboarding and employment compliance activity through the PEO.

  • Manage accurate and timely semi-monthly payroll inputs in partnership with Sequoia One and external providers.

  • Develop and maintain the US policy suite and employee handbook, aligned with our global People approach and local requirements.

  • Maintain the integrity of US employee data within the HRIS and produce accurate reporting and insights to support People and business decisions.

  • Partner with the Office Manager and Talent Acquisition team to coordinate a smooth onboarding experience for US new joiners.

  • Coordinate US onboarding compliance, including Form I-9 completion, employment eligibility verification and required new-hire documentation and reporting.

  • Manage offboarding end to end, including termination processes, required documentation, state final-pay requirements and exit processes.

  • Administer applicable federal and state leave programmes, including FMLA, and manage workplace accommodations and workers’ compensation claims.

  • Act as the first point of contact for employees and managers on US benefits, policies and the employee handbook.

  • Coordinate multi-state employment compliance in partnership with Sequoia One and external advisers, including state registrations, exempt/non-exempt classifications and applicable EEO-1 and ACA reporting.

  • Contribute to office-capacity planning by providing US headcount and workforce insights, and partner with the Office Manager to create a positive and engaging employee experience within the Tampa office.

Partnering:

  • Partner with US leaders, coaching them through employee relations, performance and conduct matters.

  • Partner with and support the UK People Partner in delivering biannual performance reviews and pulse surveys across the US, providing local insight and supporting leaders with resulting actions.

  • Support US compensation benchmarking, salary-band development and applicable state and local pay-transparency requirements.

  • Help embed inforcer’s culture and values across the US business.

  • Partner with L&D to evaluate learning initiatives, identify capability gaps and recommend further interventions.

Skills We Need for This Role

  • 5+ years’ experience in a broad People Generalist or People Partner role, including partnering with and coaching senior leaders.

  • Strong multi-state US employment knowledge and experience managing employee relations matters.

  • Experience within a fast-growing global start-up or scale-up, ideally supporting GTM teams.

  • Comfortable operating as a standalone or first-in-country People hire and building scalable processes from scratch.

  • Hands-on People Operations experience across payroll, benefits, onboarding, offboarding and 401(k) administration.

  • Strong communication, influencing and judgement skills, with the ability to operate independently and navigate ambiguity.

  • High levels of discretion and confidence handling sensitive and confidential matters.

  • Strong HRIS capability; HiBob experience and SHRM-CP or PHR certification would be advantageous.
