Informa TechTarget is looking for an Editor-in-Chief to manage and lead its cybersecurity media publication Dark Reading and the journalists who work on the site. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for driving editorial excellence, ensuring journalistic quality and accuracy, and cultivating and growing the brand's position as a trusted and top resource for cybersecurity professionals.

The ideal candidate will be a manager who can lead and inspire a talented team of editors and reporters; who is a detail-oriented manager, writer and editor; and who has significant subject matter expertise and presence in the cybersecurity industry.

The position reports to the VP.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead Dark Reading's vision, content strategy and global expansion
  • Grow Dark Reading's target audience of CISOs and cybersecurity operations leaders and practitioners with the goal of ensuring and expanding audience loyalty and engagement
  • Manage and deploy the publication's resources and budgets
  • Manage a team of editors and reporters, mentoring, training and coaching them for growth
  • Oversee the creation of a variety of types of content and coverage including uniquely reported and written breaking news and analysis, high-impact features, video and long-term projects
  • Direct resources for optimal execution of editorial products including the Dark Reading website, daily & weekly newsletters, webinars, virtual events, podcast and live panel sessions
  • Serve as a role model for the team, and hold its journalism accountable to the brand's high standards
  • Build and nurture their own relationships with CISOs, industry experts, analysts and thought leaders
  • Monitor audience engagement and other relevant metrics and adjust content strategy accordingly
  • Represent the brand at industry events, conferences, and speaking engagements
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative and inclusive team culture
  • Assess the publication's market position and recommend growth strategies
  • Collaborate with audience team to ensure content aligns with business goals
  • Minimum 5+ years of cybersecurity journalism experience and a minimum of 2+ years' experience as a manager
  • Cybersecurity technology and subject matter expertise with exceptional business reporting, writing and editing skills
  • A well-established and vast network of cybersecurity industry connections and sources
  • Strong leadership and communications skills to support, nurture and empower members of the team
  • A strong understanding of how to operate digital media publications with a diverse mix of editorial products
  • A proven ability to think strategically, plan holistically, shape editorial coverage and mobilize resources
