Insight Global is seeking an experienced SAP Business Systems Analyst to lead a current-state process discovery and documentation initiative focused on master data processes across SAP ECC and related enterprise applications.
The organization has strong internal SAP functional SMEs and extensive institutional knowledge, but many current processes are not formally documented or standardized. This consultant will work across business and technology teams to uncover how master data processes operate today, identify system and functional dependencies, and translate that knowledge into clear, structured workflows.
This is not a hands-on SAP configuration role and does not require deep expertise across every SAP module. The ideal candidate understands SAP ECC/S/4HANA well enough to facilitate conversations across functional areas, ask the right questions, identify gaps and dependencies, and make sense of complex business processes.
The resulting documentation will establish a foundation for standardized master data workflows, BPMN 2.0 process modeling, and ongoing SAP transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structured discovery sessions and workshops with business stakeholders, SAP functional SMEs, process owners, and technology teams.
- Document current-state processes involving master data objects such as:
- Customer master
- Vendor master
- Material master
- Finished goods
- Understand how master data processes span SAP functional areas such as SD, MM, PP, FI/CO, and related applications.
- Ask probing questions to uncover undocumented processes, handoffs, exceptions, dependencies, ownership, and business rules.
- Translate institutional and verbal knowledge into clear current-state workflows, process maps, and supporting documentation.
- Identify inconsistencies and variations in how processes are performed across teams and business areas.
- Partner with internal SAP SMEs to validate functional details and resolve gaps in process understanding.
- Help establish a centralized view of current master data processes that can support future standardization and transformation.
- Create process documentation suitable for BPMN 2.0 modeling and eventual ingestion into SAP Signavio.
- Partner with internal BPMN/process-modeling resources when necessary to translate discovery findings into formal process models.
- Support broader SAP ECC-to-S/4HANA transformation and process modernization efforts.
Required Skills
- Strong Business Systems Analyst, Business Process Analyst, or similar process-discovery experience.
- Experience working with SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA business processes.
- Demonstrated experience leading stakeholder interviews, discovery sessions, and process workshops.
- Strong current-state / as-is process discovery and documentation experience.
- Ability to work across multiple SAP functional areas without needing to be the technical SME for every module.
- Experience translating complex or undocumented business processes into structured workflows and documentation.
- Strong facilitation skills, including the ability to ask probing questions and identify root causes, exceptions, and process dependencies.
- Ability to operate independently in environments where existing documentation may be limited.
- Strong communication skills and experience partnering across business and technology organizations.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SAP master data processes, particularly customer, vendor, material, or finished-goods data.
- Experience supporting SAP ECC-to-S/4HANA transformation or readiness initiatives.
- BPMN 2.0 process modeling experience.
- Experience with process-modeling tools such as SAP Signavio, Microsoft Visio, Miro, ARIS, Lucidchart, or similar tools.
- Manufacturing or complex enterprise environment experience.
- Master Data Management (MDM) or Master Data Governance (MDG) exposure.
- Experience identifying opportunities for process standardization or harmonization.
- Experience working across multiple SAP modules or functional teams.
- Vista ERP/application experience is a plus.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is not simply an SAP functional/configuration consultant or a documentation analyst.
They are a strong facilitator who can enter an environment where much of the current-state knowledge exists with internal SMEs, lead structured conversations to understand how processes actually work, and convert those findings into clear and actionable process documentation.
They do not need to be an expert across every SAP module. Internal functional SMEs will provide deep subject-matter expertise where needed. The consultant should instead bring the SAP fluency, curiosity, process-analysis skills, and facilitation ability necessary to connect information across functional areas and create a cohesive view of current master data processes.
What Success Looks Like
By the end of the engagement, the organization should have a much clearer understanding of:
- How key master data objects are created, changed, approved, and maintained today
- Which teams, systems, and SAP functional areas participate in those processes
- Where processes vary across the organization
- Where undocumented handoffs, business rules, or dependencies exist
- What the standardized workflows should ultimately look like
