Job Description:
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
This role is accountable for the strategic leadership of the Environment (including climate change, CO2 reduction, and climate resilience) in Ipsen, requiring substantial engagement with other functions and ELT members. This includes defining and coordinating the implementation of the company’s Environment strategy, setting and aligning our ambitions, outlining and securing appropriate resources, and tactical implementation of key programmes to deliver.
The leader will have a strategic and influential part in establishing Ipsen as an industry leader in Environmental Sustainability (ES). It drives the development and implementation of a global ES strategy, partnering with industrial and tertiary sites and functions to deliver impactful initiatives across climate action, waste and water management, biodiversity, and natural resource preservation. The position ensures Ipsen’s leadership in science-based carbon reduction and environmental stewardship, while fostering internal talent and cross-functional collaboration.
A key member of the Sustainability and CSR team, this role is responsible for the delivering at both strategic and operational levels, the role leads global ES disclosures, external recognition efforts, and enterprise risk management. It manages Ipsen’s environmental data systems and platforms, oversees policy and standards development, and ensures alignment across the organization.
He/she will embrace the company’s position in ES as part of our business strategy and as a key driver of our CSR strategy. As a key representative of Ipsen in external forums, the role contributes to budget planning and supports the company’s long-term sustainability goals.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates the conditions for Ipsen to be an industry leader in Environmental Sustainability (ES).
Overall scope of the position includes:
Partner with all company sites and functions in development / deployment of initiatives to deliver a leading Environmental sustainability programme including science-based Carbon reductions, waste management best practice and Water stewardship.
Deliver leading ES performance across material ES concerns; climate change, Pharmaceuticals in the Environment, Natural Resource preservation, Biodiversity, etc; and prepare for the future challenges in that front.
Leverage and develop talent from across Ipsen to lead on, or support, key projects. Reflecting strong leadership by inspiration skills to embark the organization into this important strategy implementation.
Leads on all Global ES public disclosures, external ES Indices and Recognition (Awards) management and a strong contributor to the group CSRD reporting.
Global ES data Management & assurance lead inc. KPI Management, data sources, assurance and inventories.
Business partner and Administrator for the Global EHS information management platform ensuring the company EHS strategy is fully aligned with the ES commitment.
Leads & develops internal teams/committees that help develop, implement and maintain Ipsen's Environmental Sustainability programme including Policy, Standards, regulatory horizon as well as setting and tracking respective goals/objectives
Builds strong relationships and strategic alignment with organizational entities / functions regarding the purpose, the approach and the expected outcomes of the Environmental Sustainability programmes.
Fully accountable for Climate Action pillar of new Sustainability Strategy, including aligning Ipsen senior management to strategic approach and performance updates
Can represent Ipsen to a variety of external entities, including Regulatory Agencies, industry-related groups, and various non-profit, educational, government, and community entities.
Contributes to capital and expense planning and budgets in order to meet Ipsen expected cost objectives.
Leads on EHS Enterprise Risk Management contributions
Fully integrates and aligns the EHS strategy with the company commitments to ES. Works with EHS Leadership by providing strategic EHS direction and effective EHS decision making expertise
Manage scope, schedule, and resources to ensure work is delivered in accordance with business needs and established ES/ EHS standards
Ensure adherence to highest levels of ES/EHS Standards and regulatory requirements
Implement programs to continuously improve EHS compliance, performance and promote a positive and engaged EHS safety culture and sustainability
Provide inputs into the development and delivery of site strategy and goals, promoting operational excellence
Strengthen cross-functional working relationships through effective communication and collaboration among all key stakeholders/partners both internally and externally
Actively drive processes for team management in terms of goal setting, performance, development, and engagement
Contribute to external groups on emerging issues (eg., EFPIA efforts regarding Climate, REACH and Pharmaceuticals in the Environment PIE).
Participates as needed in Ipsen Group due diligence efforts.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge & Experience (essential):
8 to 10 years’ experience in Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Health & Safety; experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech preferred but not essential
Deep expertise on Climate (carbon reporting, decarbonization strategies, climate resilience, etc)
Experience directly managing teams in a supervisory/ leadership capacity essential.
Experience in world class EHS/ES concepts, practices, and procedures
Experience leading EHS/ES initiatives in complex, dynamic environments through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role
Knowledge & Experience (preferred):
Prior experience with operational management, budget planning & management of EHS function preferred
Education / Certifications (essential):
Bachelors in science or engineering with an additional diploma/ certification in Environmental Risk Management or or a related field of study
Relevant professional certification(s) in Environment
Language(s) (essential):
French and English
