IQVIA is an American company formed in 2016 by the merger of the contract research organisation Quintiles, founded in 1982, with the pharmaceutical data business IMS Health. It runs clinical trials on behalf of drug and device makers and simultaneously operates one of the largest healthcare data estates in the world, covering prescriptions, claims and electronic medical records, which it sells back to the same industry for commercial planning and real-world evidence studies. Headquartered in Durham, North Carolina and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it employs close to ninety thousand people and combines the trial and data businesses in what it calls connected intelligence.

UX Researcher & Designer

IQVIA is seeking a UX Researcher and Designer to lead end-to-end user experience research and design for AI-enabled clinical technology solutions within the Applied Data Science Center. This role requires a senior practitioner who can operate independently, lead through ambiguity, and partner across product, engineering, data science, clinical, and business teams to deliver evidence-based, user-centered experiences.

The successful candidate will contribute to emerging Tiny Teams using the IQVIA Agentic Operating Model, a derivation of the Delta-Echo / FDE process. The role will focus on translating complex clinical, operational, and AI-assisted workflows and artifacts into usable, trusted, and scalable product experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead UX research and design activities from discovery through delivery, including problem framing, research planning, synthesis, concept development, prototyping, validation, and post-release learning.
  • Plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative research to understand user needs, behaviors, workflows, pain points, and decision-making contexts.
  • Translate research insights into clear recommendations, design direction, and product requirements that support business, technical, and user outcomes.
  • Design and evaluate experiences for AI-enabled products, including Large Language Model-based tools, agentic systems, automation workflows, and human-in-the-loop decision support.
  • Create UX artifacts such as journey maps, workflow models, personas, service blueprints, wireframes, prototypes, usability findings, and design specifications.
  • Partner closely with team leads and cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities, clarify tradeoffs, and guide teams toward practical, user-centered solutions.
  • Operate collaboratively and effectively within small, fast-moving Tiny Teams using the IQVIA Agentic Operating Model, contributing to rapid cycles of experimentation, delivery, measurement, and iteration.
  • Provide UX leadership by creating structure in ambiguous situations, facilitating decision-making, and influencing product direction through evidence and clear communication.
  • Mentor UX colleagues and cross-functional partners by modeling strong research, design, validation, and collaboration practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Design, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in UX research, product design, usability evaluation, and user-centered product development for complex digital products.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own end-to-end UX work across discovery, design, validation, delivery support, and iteration.
  • Strong proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including interviews, contextual inquiry, surveys, usability testing, workflow analysis, and synthesis.
  • Strong interaction design, information architecture, prototyping, and visual communication skills.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across product management, engineering, data science, clinical, operations, and business functions.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence through evidence-based recommendations.
  • Proficiency with UX research, design, prototyping, and AI-enabled productivity tools such as Figma and companion tools, Copilot, Cursor, AI synthesis tools, and related platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing or evaluating AI-enabled products, LLM-powered workflows, agentic systems, intelligent automation, decision-support tools, or emerging technology solutions.
  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, clinical research, or other regulated, data-intensive domains.
  • Familiarity with agentic operating models, rapid experimentation, systems thinking, and AI-assisted product development practices.
  • Experience designing enterprise applications, analytics workflows, data visualization experiences, or complex operational tools.
  • Experience mentoring UX practitioners or helping cross-functional teams strengthen research, design, and validation practices.
  • Certification or advanced training in UX research, product design, human factors, AI product development, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in fast-paced small teams a plus.

Key Competencies

  • End-to-end UX ownership
  • Independent leadership and sound judgment
  • Strategic problem framing and ambiguity management
  • Evidence-based decision-making
  • AI fluency and responsible technology mindset
  • Cross-functional influence and collaboration
  • Clear communication and executive-ready storytelling
  • Outcome orientation and continuous learning
  • Leadership
