The company

Small businesses move fast. Opportunities often don’t wait, and cash flow pressures can appear overnight. To keep going, and growing, SMEs need finance that’s as flexible and responsive as they are.

That's why we built iwoca. Our smart technology, data science and five-star customer service ensures business owners can act with the speed, confidence and control they need, exactly when it's needed.

We’ve already cleared the way for 100,000 businesses with more than £4 billion in funding. Our passionate team is driven to help even more SMEs succeed, through access to better finance and other services that make running a business easier. Our ultimate mission is to support one million SMEs in their defining moments, creating lasting impact for the communities and economies they drive.

We’re looking for a Senior Business Development Executive.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious candidate to join our business development team. This is an entrepreneurial role, where you’ll manage and strategies your individual pipeline to find and finance SMEs in the UK - the backbone of our economy. You'll benefit from an uncapped commission structure, giving you full control over your earnings. OTE of £100k-£110k, with even higher earning potential available through promotion.

The role

As a Senior Business Development Executive, you’ll build a high quality pipeline of prospects and generate revenue by making outbound calls, booking meetings, following up with customers, advising on their best finance options from our suite of products, and closing deals.

Each interaction with a potential new customer is unique, and requires focus as well as solo thinking. How you manage your pipeline will make a significant difference in hitting your KPIs. If you are successful, there are substantial opportunities to develop in our growing team, both monetarily and professionally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and nurturing a high quality prospect pipeline by making regular outbound calls, and occasionally dealing with inbound queries, at all times representing the company in a highly professional manner

  • Listening, understanding and advising which of our finance options can help solve your prospect’s challenges.

  • Identifying and qualifying prospects alongside the ones we have identified and initially qualified for you.

  • Communicating the iwoca value proposition in a precise and compelling way to help SMEs understand and make use of our loan products.

  • Going above and beyond in your efforts to hit and exceed your KPIs; this will enable us to beat growth targets

  • Working as a team player, and helping improve the overall success of this exciting part of the business.

  • Willingness to mentor and help junior colleagues improve their own performance.

The requirements

  • At least 3-5 years in sales roles, particularly in selling complicated products directly to decision makers.

  • Confident making cold outbound calls, and thrive off speaking and connecting with business owners

  • Highly motivated, and excited by the challenge of exceeding targets

  • Able to take on, and provide, quality feedback to power your own growth, as well as that of your teammates

  • Organised and confident in managing a large pipeline of prospects, with deals at various stages in our process.

  • Able to simplify and explain complex products in a way that customers with little experience in commercial financing can easily understand

  • Resilient. You’ll take setbacks in your stride, and see value in the lessons setbacks give you.

  • Empathetic. You need to understand and sympathise with the problems our customers face. You love helping people.

Don’t take this list as prescriptive: it’s just to give you a sense of who might do well at the job. We’d still love to hear from you if you don’t hit every point on the list, or if you have other experience.

The culture

At iwoca, we prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the development of our team members. We value thought and skill diversity, and encourage people to explore new areas of interest, adopt better tools - including AI - and apply sound judgement so our products and decisions improve over time.

The offices

We put a lot of effort into making iwoca a great place to work:

  • Offices in London, Leeds, Berlin, and Frankfurt with plenty of drinks and snacks.

  • Events and community-led groups, including running groups, padel, and monthly ping-pong and pool competitions.

The benefits

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Medical insurance from Vitality, including discounted gym membership.

  • A choice between a dedicated dental plan or a health cash plan that reimburses everyday medical expenses.

  • A private GP service (separate from Vitality) for you, your partner, and your dependents.

  • 25 days’ holiday per year, an extra day off for your birthday, the option to buy or sell an additional five days of annual leave, and unlimited unpaid leave.

  • A one-month, fully paid sabbatical after four years.

  • Instant access to external counselling and therapy sessions for team members that need emotional or mental health support.

  • 3% Pension contributions on total earnings.

  • An employee equity incentive scheme.

  • Generous parental leave and a nursery tax benefit scheme to help you save money.

  • Electric car scheme and cycle to work scheme.

  • Two company retreats a year: we’ve been to France, Italy, Spain, and further afield.

And to make sure we all keep learning, we offer:

  • A learning and development budget for everyone.

  • Company-wide talks with internal and external speakers.

  • Access to learning platforms like Treehouse.
