Basic Purpose of the Position:
The Design Engineer is a critical role responsible for managing the engineering aspects of localization. This position combines form/fit/function analysis, value engineering, localized design, BOM management and cross-functional collaboration to optimize local manufacturing and aftermarket parts availability.
Major Responsibility Area #1: Design for local manufacturing
- Working in teams on the development of concepts, testing, investigation and verification of concepts and designs.
- To execute the maintenance and mechanical design of machinery, layouts, assemblies and components, to fulfill the design and requirements, to prepare assembly/detail drawings and part lists.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising product quality or delivery schedules.
- Drive Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives at the Site level.
- Engage cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful VAVE implementation and savings capturing.
Major Responsibility Area #2: Parts localization
- Identifying and evaluating new suppliers in collaboration with operations, aftermarket and global sourcing teams.
- Paying attention to the function, reliability, safety, production technologies and cost.
- Engage cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful parts implementation and savings capturing.
Major Responsibility Area #3: Technical documentation
- Review and update technical documentation in accordance with localization.
- Distribute necessary technical documentation to customers, site supervisors, and suppliers.
Education:
- Mandatory: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Skills and Experience:
- Mandatory: Minimum of 5 years in engineering, with a strong background in production processes.
- Knowledge of the food processing industry requirements.
- Good understanding of mechanics and industrial automation.
- Experience with or knowledge of 3D design tools.
- Experience with and comfort working in multi-cultural, multi-discipline organization.
- Excellent skills in written and spoken English.
Travel Requirements:
- Frequent visits to JBTM plant and local suppliers will be required.
- Some international travel may be required.
