Opportunity:
JBT Marel is looking for a Field Service Controls Technician. Your primary responsibility will be installation, servicing, and repairing JBT Marel-sold equipment at our customer sites. In this role, you will perform technical controls, electrical, and some mechanical work as a Controls Technician. Strategically manage the field service activities surrounding these product lines while working actively to expand and grow the business.
On a given day, you may:
- Perform all duties in accordance with JBT Marel safety policies and procedures while maintaining a safety-focused work mentality.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment problems and makes appropriate software repairs or recommendations to customers
- Strong proficiency in Allen Bradley PLC hardware (ControlLogix, CompactLogix) and software (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500).
- Proficiency in Beckhoff Automation controls platforms
- Experience in networking protocols (EtherNet/IP) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Reads and interprets equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service software and electrical wise.
- Reads and interprets electrical and mechanical CAD drawings, P&ID’s, and flow schemes
- Accurately prepares and submits inspection reports, service reports, time sheets, and expense reports in a timely manner to Service Coordinator or Service Manager. All reports should be done on a weekly basis.
- Recommends equipment modifications to eliminate future performance problems. Advises client on replacement part orders.
- Consults with engineering team to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance.
- Clearly and professionally interact with customers daily regarding status of commissioning.
- May supervise/train customer employees and/or employees in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
- Creating functional HMI screens for operator interaction
- Write and/or modify PC or PLC programs to control industrial food processing equipment
- Document changes and updates to ensure proper revision control.
- Document work procedures and ensure high quality through the engineering process.
- Support the organization when engineering-related questions arise.
- Remote support to Field Service Engineers to resolve customer issues when they arise.
- Performance maintenance and setup work on all JBT Marel products
- Set up and adjust machines in the field to equipment specifications.
- Strong electromechanically inclined abilities to troubleshoot and repair machinery hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components.
- Perform machine audits, repairs, and preventative scheduled maintenance.
- Diagnose problems, dismantle machines, replace defective parts, and reassemble machines.
- Identify and articulate root cause problem statements while troubleshooting.
- Safety conscious leader, with a proven track record on safety.
- Good interpersonal skills with a positive and professional attitude.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 3-5 years of experience in control systems applications like Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff etc.
- 3-5 years of experience with electrical schematics reading
- Solid mechanical knowledge with blueprint reading ability
- Two-year technical school training or related bachelor’s degree preferred
- Computer skills - including laptop and smart phone, use of Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
- Travel includes nights and weekends and may fluctuate due to business need/priority.
- Up to 90% travel required, including some international.
- Manufacturing experience in food and beverage industry preferred.
Work Environment
- Will work pre-dominantly at customers’ site both domestic and abroad as well as from home office.
- Will work around Heavy Machinery
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Occasionally lifting heavy objects up to 50lbs.
- Squatting, prolonged standing and working at various heights
COMPENSATION RANGE: $38.00-44.00 per hour- Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience.
