Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical This senior engineering role will lead mechanical project work across pump and pipeline systems, hydro mining, tailings reclamation and innovative mining solutions. Based at Head Office on a work-from-home basis, the position includes regular travel to suppliers, consultants and mining sites across South Africa, with occasional international travel. Job Specification ABOUT THE ROLE You will play a central role in developing practical, high-performance solutions for complex mining and mineral residue environments. The position combines mechanical engineering, strategic project leadership, technical research and innovation, with a strong focus on progressing hydro mining capabilities. Offer Key responsibilities include Lead concept studies for slurry and high-pressure water systems supporting hydro mining projects. Manage specialist consultants through study, design and execution stages. Review existing pump and pipeline systems, identifying bottlenecks, optimisation opportunities and improvement measures. Build specialist expertise in hydro mining through internal collaboration, external engagement and ongoing study. Plan, execute, monitor, control and close strategic projects across the business. Manage project scope, teams, resources, budgets and delivery outcomes. Coordinate external consultants, suppliers and technical partners. Develop business models and plans for new strategic initiatives. Prepare detailed project progress reports and communicate updates to EXCO and key stakeholders. Build awareness of new initiatives across the business and support related marketing activities. Identify project and operational risks, then develop practical engineering controls and mitigation measures. Evaluate control environments and recommend improvements to processes, systems and work practices. Work closely with mineral processing, tailings and operational teams to implement new approaches. Research industry trends, emerging technologies and new opportunities. Lead academic and other research projects from planning through to delivery. Investigate, develop and operationalise new equipment and tailings deposition solutions. Develop concept mechanical designs for reclamation, pumping and piping systems. Support the commercial negotiation and formalisation of innovative solutions with suppliers, consultants and service providers. WHAT YOU'LL NEED BSc with Honours or BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering. Five to ten years’ relevant engineering experience. At least five years’ experience in pump and pipeline design. Strong working knowledge of pumping and piping technical solutions. Excellent project management capability. Strong analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management, planning and organisational ability. The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining delivery focus. A flexible, collaborative approach to working with technical, operational and commercial stakeholders. Medical fitness to work on mining and project sites. Fully compliant vaccinations, including the required yellow card and other site-specific vaccinations. NICE TO HAVE Project management experience or formal project management training. Experience in tailings management. Exposure to hydro mining, mineral processing, tailings reclamation or related mining services. Experience working with suppliers, consultants, academic institutions or innovation-focused industry partners.
