An energy efficiency, facility, and utility monitoring company based in Cape Town is seeking a Developer / Systems Integrator who will own live customer systems and make calls about data that clients bill on.
Responsibilities:
Bench Commissioning & Go-Live: Build, configure (Modbus/MQTT/credentials), and test edge gateways in the Strand office. Direct field technicians remotely during site go-lives.
Converters & Decoders: Write JavaScript to translate raw device payloads into scaled, named measurements. Correctly handle signed values, 32-bit registers, scaling factors, and unit conversions based on datasheets.
Platform Scripting & Automation: Write Python against the REST API for bulk device operations, data back-fills, key audits, and scheduled health checks.
Dashboards & Reporting: Maintain client dashboards, consumption emails, CSV exports, and alarm summaries that reconcile fully with raw telemetry.
Standards & Documentation: Enforce and audit single measurement-naming standards across clients. Document technical changes inline and maintain issue trackers.
Deployment & Server Support: Support Linux servers, Nginx, TLS certificates, service restarts, and version updates. Read system logs to diagnose offline devices or failed services.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience: ~2 years of relevant experience preferred. High-aptitude early-career candidates welcome.
Qualifications: No formal degree required. A portfolio demonstrating practical, real-world capability carries equal weight to a diploma or degree.
Technical Essentials:
