Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) activities across the mining operation.

  • Develop, implement, maintain and continuously improve the company's SHEQ management systems, policies and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), DMPR requirements and all relevant legislation.

  • Accept and fulfil all applicable statutory legal appointments required for the position.

  • Liaise with the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) and other regulatory authorities.

  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification (HIRA), HAZOP studies, audits and inspections.

  • Lead incident investigations using recognised methodologies such as ICAM and Bowtie and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

  • Oversee environmental management, rehabilitation programmes and sustainability initiatives.

  • Drive contractor HSE compliance, legal appointments and safety performance.

  • Develop and implement safety training, inductions, toolbox talks and safety awareness programmes.

  • Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.

  • Manage emergency preparedness, medical surveillance programmes and emergency response planning.

  • Monitor HSE performance, analyse safety metrics and prepare statutory compliance reports.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

  • Provide HSE leadership during construction and mining projects.
