This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Civil Engineering Expert based in United States.
This is a remote, hourly opportunity for an experienced civil engineering professional with strong exposure to large-scale infrastructure and construction environments.
You will help design realistic evaluation scenarios that reflect the complexity, safety considerations, and regulatory requirements of major engineering projects.
Your expertise will be used to assess whether AI systems can apply sound engineering judgment rather than simply reproduce textbook concepts.
The role spans structural, transportation, water resources, environmental, geotechnical, and construction disciplines.
You will develop reference outputs and evaluation rubrics grounded in real-world engineering practices, standards, and project workflows.
The work offers flexibility while giving senior practitioners an opportunity to contribute directly to the development of more capable AI systems.
Experts familiar with either US or international engineering standards are encouraged to contribute.
Accountabilities
- Construct realistic civil engineering scenarios covering large-scale infrastructure design, permitting, regulatory review, construction management, and public works processes.
- Develop evaluation tasks across structural design and analysis, transportation and highway engineering, water resources, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction project management.
- Create scenarios incorporating professional tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, HEC-RAS, and enterprise project management platforms.
- Apply appropriate engineering methodologies, including structural load analysis, geotechnical assessment, and hydrology/hydraulic modeling, according to relevant standards.
- Produce reference design plans, engineering calculations, technical analyses, and stakeholder- or regulator-facing narratives that reflect professional practice.
- Work across US standards such as ASCE, ACI, AISC, and AASHTO, and/or international frameworks including Eurocodes and ISO standards.
- Develop detailed rubrics that distinguish authentic senior-level civil engineering judgment from generic or coursework-level responses.
- Contribute engineering expertise to the ongoing refinement of AI evaluation tasks and quality standards.
- 5+ years of professional experience working as a civil engineer, engineering lead, or in a closely related senior technical capacity.
- Demonstrated ownership of large-scale infrastructure design, permitting, engineering analysis, or construction project delivery.
- Strong practical knowledge of civil engineering methodologies and the ability to apply them to complex, real-world project scenarios.
- Familiarity with professional engineering software and workflows, including tools such as Civil 3D, Revit, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, HEC-RAS, or comparable platforms.
- Understanding of regulatory approvals, environmental review processes such as NEPA or international equivalents, and public-agency oversight.
- Ability to work with US standards including ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and AASHTO LRFD and/or international Eurocodes and ISO standards.
- Strong analytical reasoning, attention to detail, and ability to distinguish technically defensible engineering decisions from superficial answers.
- A recognized professional engineering credential such as US PE, CEng, EUR ING, or P.Eng is strongly preferred.
- Experience creating engineering training materials, evaluation rubrics, technical documentation, or design guidance is an advantage.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and work independently in a remote environment.
- Compensation: $70-$80 per hour.
- Work arrangement: Fully remote and available to professionals based in the United States.
- Schedule flexibility: Work can be completed according to your own schedule.
- Contract type: Independent contractor engagement.
- Payment: Weekly payments through Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
- Project flexibility: Assignments may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on project needs and performance.
- Confidentiality: Work does not require access to confidential or proprietary employer, client, or institutional information.
- Professional impact: Opportunity to apply senior civil engineering expertise to the development and evaluation of advanced AI systems.
- Accessibility: Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified applicants.
- Eligibility: H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported for this engagement.
