Jobgether is a Belgian recruitment platform built entirely around remote and flexible work, aggregating openings from thousands of employers that allow work from outside an office. Its matching engine ranks roles against a candidate's skills, seniority and stated preferences on location and flexibility, rather than leaving people to filter a keyword search, and it verifies how genuinely remote each posting is. The company also runs an AI screening layer that shortlists applicants for employers, and publishes research and guidance on distributed work practices alongside the job marketplace itself.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Lab Systems Software Development Engineering based in the United States.

This is a senior engineering leadership role responsible for shaping software development strategy across critical laboratory systems and enterprise technology environments.

You’ll lead the execution of engineering initiatives that connect business, product, and technology priorities while maintaining high standards for quality and reliability.

The role combines organizational leadership with deep oversight of complex software platforms, system scalability, governance, performance, and availability.

You’ll partner closely with product, architecture, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to translate enterprise priorities into effective engineering strategies.

A major focus will be building strong engineering teams, developing talent, and establishing a culture centered on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

You’ll also ensure software development practices meet regulatory requirements, internal standards, service-level expectations, and clinical laboratory needs.

This fully remote U.S. opportunity offers significant organizational impact, with approximately 25% travel and the chance to influence technology supporting healthcare and laboratory operations.

Accountabilities:

    • Lead the execution of software development engineering strategies that align with organizational business objectives, product priorities, and broader technology goals.
    • Drive engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and consistent delivery of high-quality software and technology solutions.
    • Establish a culture of accountability, quality, transparency, and on-time delivery while ensuring engineering practices comply with applicable regulatory requirements, internal SOPs, and development standards.
    • Collaborate with product, architecture, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to align engineering roadmaps and initiatives with enterprise priorities.
    • Establish and maintain engineering standards, governance frameworks, development practices, and operational models that support scalable, reliable, and high-performing systems.
    • Monitor engineering performance and system availability, identify delivery and technology risks, and implement improvements that increase efficiency, quality, reliability, and service performance.
    • Ensure application and system availability consistently meets established service-level agreements and operational expectations.
    • Build, coach, mentor, and develop high-performing software engineering teams while encouraging knowledge sharing and collaboration across technology organizations.
    • Provide technical and organizational leadership across complex enterprise software platforms and initiatives, helping teams make effective architectural and delivery decisions.
    • Promote innovation and continuous improvement while balancing business priorities, technical constraints, operational requirements, and clinical laboratory needs.
    • Build strong collaborative partnerships across internal and external teams and communicate priorities, risks, dependencies, and outcomes effectively to both technical and business stakeholders.
    • Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, business, or a related discipline.
      • 8+ years of experience in software development engineering, application development, or related technical disciplines, including experience within a clinical laboratory environment.
      • 3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams or enterprise-scale engineering initiatives.
      • 3+ years of experience designing, developing, or overseeing complex enterprise software systems, platforms, or technology environments.
      • 3+ years of experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business objectives into technical strategies and engineering priorities.
      • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory operational workflows, including order-to-report and order-to-bill processes.
      • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering strategy and execution within complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders, systems, and competing priorities.
      • Expertise in scalable system design, software development lifecycle management, engineering governance, quality practices, and operational performance.
      • Strong understanding of system architecture, platform engineering, or large-scale distributed technology environments is highly valued.
      • Experience establishing development standards, governance frameworks, engineering operating models, and delivery practices is preferred.
      • Experience leading engineering organizations supporting multiple products, platforms, or enterprise systems is desirable.
      • A master’s degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
      • Excellent communication and executive-level stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical priorities, risks, trade-offs, and outcomes.
      • Strong leadership, mentoring, collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, with a commitment to inclusive, accountable, and transparent leadership.
      • Benefits

        • Full-time employment with approximately 25% travel required.
        • Competitive base salary range of $175,000-$225,000, with final compensation determined by relevant skills, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, market data, and other applicable factors.
        • Eligibility for an annual bonus under the applicable bonus plan, based on organizational and/or business performance and individual performance.

        • Tuition reimbursement to support continued education and professional development.
        • Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
        • Opportunity to lead engineering strategy and organizational development across complex laboratory and healthcare technology systems.
        • Significant influence over engineering standards, governance, software quality, scalability, reliability, and operational performance.
        • Opportunities to build and mentor high-performing engineering teams and shape a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
        • Exposure to cross-functional enterprise initiatives spanning product, architecture, infrastructure, business, and clinical laboratory operations.
        • Inclusive workplace environment focused on collaboration, professional growth, and meaningful contributions to healthcare technology.
