Jobgether is a Belgian recruitment platform built entirely around remote and flexible work, aggregating openings from thousands of employers that allow work from outside an office. Its matching engine ranks roles against a candidate's skills, seniority and stated preferences on location and flexibility, rather than leaving people to filter a keyword search, and it verifies how genuinely remote each posting is. The company also runs an AI screening layer that shortlists applicants for employers, and publishes research and guidance on distributed work practices alongside the job marketplace itself.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Reinsurance Accounting based in the United States.

This is a strategic and hands-on leadership opportunity overseeing the financial operations of complex reinsurance programs.

You will lead the end-to-end accounting, reporting, and analysis of reinsurance arrangements across a property and casualty insurance environment.

The role covers structures including excess of loss, quota share, facultative, stop loss, and retrocession agreements.

You will manage a specialized accounting team while partnering closely with actuarial, underwriting, legal, finance, and external reinsurance stakeholders.

Your expertise will help strengthen financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, internal controls, and operational efficiency.

You will also drive process improvements and automation initiatives that enhance the quality and scalability of reinsurance operations.

Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, you will have broad visibility and an important role in supporting financial and business objectives.

    • Lead and manage the reinsurance accounting team responsible for treaty administration, premium and claims accounting, settlements, recoverables, and related financial activities.

    • Oversee accounting and financial reporting for a broad range of reinsurance arrangements, including excess of loss (XOL), quota share, facultative, stop loss, and retrocession agreements.

    • Ensure accurate and timely accounting for ceded premiums, loss recoveries, commissions, reinstatement premiums, premium adjustments, and other treaty-related transactions.

    • Own the month-end and quarter-end reinsurance close processes and oversee the reconciliation of reinsurance-related general ledger accounts.

    • Prepare or oversee Schedule F and other applicable statutory and GAAP reporting requirements.

    • Partner with actuarial, underwriting, legal, and finance teams to interpret treaty provisions and translate them accurately into accounting processes and operations.

    • Review and approve complex reinsurance calculations, financial schedules, settlements, and related accounting analyses.

    • Lead internal and external audits involving reinsurance activities, ensuring appropriate documentation, controls, and supporting evidence are maintained.

    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with reinsurance brokers, reinsurers, third-party administrators, and other external partners.

    • Identify and implement process improvements, standardization, and automation opportunities to increase efficiency, accuracy, and control.

    • Monitor developments in accounting and regulatory requirements and ensure ongoing compliance with relevant standards, including ASC 944 and SSAP 62R.

    • Coach, mentor, and develop team members while fostering strong collaboration and accountability across the reinsurance accounting function.

    • Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

      • CPA certification is preferred.

      • At least 8 years of relevant experience in reinsurance accounting, insurance finance, or a closely related discipline.

      • At least 3 years of experience leading teams or managing people in a professional accounting or insurance environment.

      • Deep knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles as they apply to reinsurance.

      • Strong experience with property and casualty reinsurance programs and complex treaty structures.

      • Previous experience preparing Schedule F and NAIC regulatory filings.

      • Strong understanding of ceded reinsurance accounting, recoverables, premiums, claims, commissions, settlements, and related financial reporting.

      • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling and complex financial analysis.

      • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

      • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting matters clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

      • Proven leadership, coaching, and people development skills.

      • Strong project management and process improvement mindset, including the ability to identify opportunities for automation and operational enhancement.

      • Ability to collaborate effectively across finance, actuarial, underwriting, legal, and other functions and influence stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.

        • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
