Founding Engineer – Full-Stack Generalist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Founding Engineer - Full-Stack Generalist based in India.

This is a senior/staff-level individual contributor opportunity for a hands-on engineer who will become the first in-house engineering hire for an AI-native professional services automation platform. You’ll own the product end-to-end across frontend, backend, cloud infrastructure, releases, and AI capabilities. The role combines technical autonomy with meaningful product influence, requiring you to make pragmatic decisions about what to preserve, improve, isolate, or replace. You’ll work closely with technical and non-technical founders in a fast-moving environment where ambiguity and ownership are part of the job. Your work will directly shape platform reliability, security, scalability, and customer experience. As the company grows, you may also help shape the first engineering team around the platform.

Accountabilities

• Own the platform end-to-end as a full-stack generalist, designing, building, shipping, deploying, and operating product capabilities across frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
• Maintain production health by diagnosing incidents and defects, managing releases safely, and implementing effective rollback and recovery practices.
• Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools to accelerate engineering output while independently validating generated code for correctness, security, performance, and robustness.
• Lead engineering efforts toward ISO 27001 and SOC 2 readiness, translating compliance requirements into practical technical controls ahead of the target timeline.
• Make AI assistant and orchestration capabilities reliable, measurable, secure, and suitable for production use.
• Evaluate the existing platform and determine what should be preserved, isolated, improved, or replaced based on customer risk, technical value, and commercial priorities.
• Develop and evolve core product capabilities including delivery intelligence, AI assistance, statement-of-work ingestion, project and resource management, commercial workflows, and orchestration features.
• Operate as the primary hands-on technical owner, balancing technical debt, reliability, product development, and customer-facing improvements without unnecessary platform rewrites.
• Collaborate directly with founders and stakeholders across technical and non-technical areas, translating business priorities into practical engineering decisions.
• Help define the future engineering organization and contribute to hiring and onboarding the first supporting engineers as the business scales.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally including early-stage startup, founding-engineer, or other high-ownership environments.
• 5+ years of senior-level full-stack engineering experience across React/TypeScript and Node/Postgres-style backends, or an equivalent modern JavaScript/TypeScript stack such as Next.js or Vue/Nuxt.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of products end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
• 4+ years of senior-level experience independently managing cloud deployments, releases, and CI/CD, or a strong track record of operating production infrastructure without a dedicated DevOps or platform team.
• 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL/Supabase or equivalent, including relational data modelling, row-level security, and edge functions; experience with other Postgres-based platforms, Firebase, or PlanetScale is also relevant.
• 1-2+ years of professional use of AI-assisted or agentic coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or equivalent, with a disciplined approach to validating AI-generated output.
• Strong understanding of how to review, test, secure, and verify AI-generated code rather than relying on automated output without oversight.
• Comfort working as a senior/staff-level individual contributor and owning a product or platform independently or with minimal engineering support.
• Experience with LLM application engineering, including prompt design, evaluation, grounding, orchestration, and agent safety, is highly valued.
• Strong security fundamentals covering multi-tenant access control, authentication/OAuth, secrets management, and secure software practices.
• Ability to independently research and translate ISO 27001 and SOC 2 requirements into engineering practices and controls.
• Experience in startups, founding-engineer environments, or small teams where engineers are expected to ship quickly and own outcomes from concept through production.
• Experience stabilizing and hardening rapidly generated or AI-assisted codebases is advantageous.
• Experience integrating Stripe or other payment, billing, or metering APIs is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively amid ambiguity, evolving requirements, and direct founder collaboration.
