Freelance Backend Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Freelance Backend Developer based in Brazil.

This is a fully remote, hourly freelance opportunity for an experienced Backend Developer focused on building secure, scalable, and high-performance server-side systems. You will contribute to internal technology infrastructure as well as diverse client platforms, designing reliable backend architectures and integrations. The role covers API development, database architecture, authentication, security, cloud infrastructure, and performance optimization. You will work across both SQL and NoSQL environments while ensuring applications can scale efficiently as business needs evolve. Collaboration with frontend developers, DevOps professionals, and project managers will be key to delivering stable and well-integrated solutions. Strong engineering practices, clean code, and the ability to manage multiple technical projects independently are essential in this remote environment.

Accountabilities:

• Architect, develop, and maintain robust server-side applications, business logic, and database structures for internal systems and client platforms.
• Design and implement scalable RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints to enable secure and reliable communication between frontend applications, backend services, and third-party integrations.
• Manage and optimize relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, as well as NoSQL solutions such as MongoDB, ensuring efficient storage, retrieval, and query performance.
• Implement authentication and authorization workflows using technologies such as OAuth and JWT while applying appropriate security and data protection measures.
• Design backend solutions with scalability, reliability, maintainability, and performance in mind.
• Troubleshoot backend issues, investigate performance bottlenecks, and optimize workflows and system components.
• Collaborate closely with frontend developers, DevOps teams, and project managers to coordinate development, integrations, testing, and releases.
• Support application deployments and updates through CI/CD pipelines and modern cloud-based infrastructure.
• Maintain clean, modular, well-documented code and contribute to comprehensive technical documentation.
• Manage multiple backend development projects, priorities, and deadlines while coordinating effectively with distributed technical teams.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience with a proven track record of building, deploying, and maintaining secure and scalable server-side systems.
• Advanced proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, Ruby, or PHP, along with relevant frameworks such as Express, Django, or Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture, API design, data modeling, database architecture, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases, including technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Solid experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
• Practical knowledge of server management and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, application security, and data protection principles.
• Strategic problem-solving abilities with a focus on clean, modular, maintainable code and effective technical documentation.
• Strong organizational, time-management, time-tracking, and project management skills.
• Ability to manage several backend projects simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, and work independently in a remote environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with distributed frontend, DevOps, and project teams.
• Prior experience with technology companies, enterprise platforms, or cloud-native environments is an advantage.
