Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, robust backend software and REST API microservices capable of operating reliably at significant scale.
- Design APIs and software architectures for collaborative technical review, while contributing to API documentation and governance practices.
- Develop comprehensive automated tests that validate software behavior and help maintain high standards of reliability and quality.
- Build and operate fault-tolerant applications and services with a strong focus on scalability, resilience, performance, and operational excellence.
- Investigate technical issues, debug complex problems, and deliver effective, maintainable solutions.
- Contribute to technical documentation and engineering standards to improve knowledge sharing across teams.
- Collaborate proactively with globally distributed engineers and contribute to cross-team technical initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership within engineering teams and external communities by sharing knowledge, presenting ideas, and influencing best practices.
- Explore and contribute to improvements in database performance, multi-region service delivery, proactive security analysis, distributed-system tracing and profiling, and next-generation DevOps practices.
- Participate in international team events and collaborate with colleagues in person approximately twice a year.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a comparable technical discipline, or a compelling alternative professional background.
- Strong academic performance and a demonstrated history of taking initiative and exceeding expectations.
- Professional experience developing modern, maintainable software using Python and/or Go.
- Experience building scalable web services or working with systems programming.
- Experience with both relational and non-relational database systems, including an understanding of database performance considerations.
- Hands-on experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
- Experience working with Linux, with Debian or Ubuntu experience considered valuable.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, API design, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with strong communication and presentation skills.
- Curiosity, flexibility, accountability, self-motivation, and a results-oriented approach to delivering commitments.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a globally distributed engineering environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.
- Additional valuable experience includes Docker, LXD, Kubernetes, build systems and toolchains, cross-compilation, hyperscale or private clouds, performance engineering, security, and distributed-system design and operations.
