Senior Backend Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer based in Brazil.

In this role, you’ll design secure, scalable backend services that solve meaningful customer problems. You’ll have significant ownership over technical decisions and contribute directly to product discovery and roadmap development. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams in a collaborative, fast-moving environment. The role combines hands-on software development with system design, performance optimization, and technical debt reduction. It’s an opportunity to shape foundational technology while working with an international team and modern cloud infrastructure.

Accountabilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, secure backend services that address real customer and business needs.
• Partner closely with Product Managers during problem discovery, solution design, and technical decision-making.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable delivery of new features, improvements, and product capabilities.
• Contribute to system architecture and technical decisions, balancing scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Proactively identify and address technical debt, improving system functionality, reliability, and long-term engineering efficiency.
• Help maximize team output by improving engineering practices, collaboration, communication, and delivery processes.
• Contribute to a product-focused engineering culture based on ownership, quality, continuous improvement, and collaborative problem-solving.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience building and operating backend systems in fast-paced engineering environments.
• Strong backend development experience with TypeScript or another strongly typed programming language.
• Solid experience with SQL databases and backend frameworks such as Nest.js, Spring Boot, or comparable technologies.
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, performance optimization, and building reliable production services.
• Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams and participating in product discovery and solution development.
• Strong communication skills, collaborative mindset, entrepreneurial attitude, and a high degree of ownership.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems pragmatically while maintaining high standards for code quality and reliability.
• Experience with fintech, highly regulated industries, or document-processing systems is a plus.
• Familiarity with modern cloud environments and technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, GitHub, CI/CD, and MySQL is advantageous.
