Senior Manager, Data & AI Strategy

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, Data & AI Strategy based in the United States.

This is a strategic, cross-functional leadership role focused on using data, AI, analytics, and emerging technologies to strengthen organizational effectiveness and mission impact.

You will work closely with leaders and teams across programs, advocacy, communications, development, finance, operations, People, and IT.

The role combines strategic advisory, portfolio management, problem-solving, and change leadership to turn complex organizational needs into practical solutions.

You will help prioritize high-value initiatives, improve data-informed decision-making, and establish responsible approaches to AI and technology adoption.

Success will require balancing innovation with sound judgment, security, ethics, and organizational readiness.

You will also help build internal capabilities, encourage experimentation, and foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities

• Data & AI Strategy: Shape the organization’s strategy for data, AI, analytics, and emerging technologies, prioritizing opportunities with the strongest organizational and mission impact.
• Strategic Advisory: Partner with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to identify challenges, clarify needs, and translate them into practical, scalable solutions.
• Portfolio & Program Management: Build and manage a prioritized portfolio of initiatives based on organizational value, feasibility, readiness, and measurable outcomes.
• Data-Informed Decision Making: Strengthen the use of metrics, reporting, analytics, and insights to improve planning, prioritization, and continuous organizational performance.
• Responsible Technology Adoption: Develop recommendations, governance practices, and implementation approaches that promote the ethical, secure, effective, and responsible use of AI and organizational data.
• Change Leadership: Drive adoption of new tools and practices through clear communications, training, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and structured change-management activities.
• Organizational Learning: Build staff capabilities, promote knowledge sharing, and encourage experimentation and continuous improvement across teams.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate initiatives involving diverse stakeholders, balancing competing priorities and evolving needs while maintaining alignment and momentum.
• Innovation & Impact: Identify emerging opportunities where technology can improve organizational effectiveness and help scale mission-driven outcomes.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Professional Experience: At least 4 years of experience in strategy, analytics, organizational effectiveness, digital transformation, AI, data strategy, management consulting, or a related discipline.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Demonstrated success leading initiatives involving technology, process improvement, organizational change, or data-driven decision-making across multiple teams.
• Program Management: Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and changing organizational requirements.
• Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to turn data and insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills across technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Influence: Proven ability to influence decisions, build stakeholder alignment, and drive adoption without relying solely on formal authority.
• Technical Communication: Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and accessibly to diverse audiences.
• Strategic Mindset: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, balancing innovation with sound judgment, and developing structure around complex problems.
• Preferred Experience: Background in nonprofit, mission-driven, research, advocacy, or philanthropic environments; experience evaluating or implementing AI, analytics, or technology-enabled transformation initiatives; familiarity with business intelligence, reporting, or data visualization tools; exposure to data governance, responsible AI, privacy, or knowledge management; knowledge of climate, energy, environmental, or public policy topics; and experience working in globally distributed organizations.

Benefits

• Salary: U.S. anticipated salary range of $117,709-$147,000 per year, with final compensation based on experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and geographic location.
