This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Client Apps Platform based in United States.
This role sits at the intersection of client applications and backend engineering, building shared platform capabilities that support multiple product surfaces.
You will design, develop, and operate production-grade services in Ruby and Go while contributing to scalable and reliable distributed systems.
The position offers broad technical influence through cross-team architecture discussions, system design, and platform strategy.
You will translate client application needs into reusable platform solutions and identify opportunities to extract common functionality into shared components.
You will work closely with product teams and domain engineers across mobile, desktop, CLI, and backend environments.
The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, incident response, mentoring, and a strong focus on reliability and observability.
This is an opportunity to shape technical direction across organizational boundaries while helping engineering teams move faster through thoughtfully designed platform infrastructure.
Accountabilities
- Maintain, extend, and operate production-grade Ruby and Go services supporting first-party client applications, delivering readable, testable, maintainable code and managing downstream dependencies.
- Lead and facilitate technical design and architecture discussions across product, client application, and domain service teams, clearly evaluating, documenting, and communicating architectural tradeoffs.
- Translate client requirements into scalable platform solutions and identify opportunities to extract common functionality from individual applications into reusable shared platform components.
- Collaborate with domain teams to extend or integrate with large Ruby on Rails codebases when additional domain capabilities, migrations, or technical changes are required.
- Define effective testing strategies, success metrics, Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and safe rollout and rollback plans to ensure reliable production delivery.
- Monitor telemetry, service health, and operational signals to support data-informed engineering decisions and continuously improve system reliability.
- Participate in an on-call and first-responder rotation, lead incident response and postmortems, and implement long-term improvements that prevent recurring reliability issues.
- Mentor engineers, participate in code reviews, and promote engineering excellence through automation, observability, testing, and maintainable development practices.
- Identify cross-team dependencies, coordinate technical workstreams, and resolve conflicts to ensure solutions meet security, performance, scalability, and reliability requirements.
- At least 6 years of experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, with demonstrated experience maintaining and delivering production software in languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, C++, Rust, or comparable technologies.
- Equivalent education and experience combinations are considered, including an Associate’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, a Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years, a Master’s degree with 2+ years, a relevant doctorate, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience designing software and systems for scalable, reliable services.
- At least 5 years of experience facilitating cross-team technical discussions, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- At least 5 years of experience maintaining and operating live production services, including monitoring, debugging, incident response, and reliability improvement.
- Hands-on production experience with Go and/or Ruby, particularly Ruby on Rails, is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with GraphQL and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) frameworks such as Twirp is desirable.
- Experience building platforms or infrastructure that support multiple client surfaces, such as mobile, desktop, and command-line interfaces, is a plus.
- Proven experience extracting shared libraries or platform capabilities from application codebases and successfully driving adoption across engineering teams is preferred.
- Experience working within and extending large existing codebases, including monolithic architectures, is beneficial.
- Experience defining SLOs, telemetry, observability strategies, and supporting tooling is desirable.
- Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts, influence architecture decisions, collaborate across organizational boundaries, and build alignment among diverse stakeholders.
- A strong ownership mindset, collaborative approach, growth orientation, and ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving engineering environment.
- Annual base salary ranging from $124,000 to $329,200 USD, with individual compensation determined by factors including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Eligibility for additional rewards depending on role and performance, including annual bonus and stock opportunities.
- Certain eligible roles may also provide sales incentives based on revenue or utilization and applicable compensation plans.
- Remote-first working environment designed to provide flexibility in how and where employees work.
- Opportunities for learning, professional development, and continued career growth.
- Competitive benefits designed to support employees and their broader personal and family needs.
- Opportunity to work on large-scale developer infrastructure used across multiple client platforms and contribute to technically complex distributed systems.
- Exposure to cross-functional architecture, platform engineering, reliability, observability, and organization-wide technical initiatives.
