This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Synon & Cobol400 Developer based in the United States.

This role offers an opportunity to work on critical healthcare and pharmacy technology platforms where reliability and technical expertise are essential.

You’ll design, enhance, and support applications built on SYNON/COOL 2E, COBOL400, CL/400, CLLE, and DB2/400.

A key focus will be supporting RxCLAIM and complex pharmacy claims adjudication processes.

You’ll combine hands-on development with production troubleshooting, system analysis, testing, and application modernization.

The role requires close collaboration with business analysts, QA teams, technical specialists, and healthcare and PBM stakeholders.

You’ll work with complex legacy systems while helping evolve them to meet changing business and technical needs.

For an experienced developer, this is a chance to take ownership of high-impact applications and provide technical leadership within a distributed team.

Accountabilities

    • Design, develop, modify, and enhance healthcare applications using SYNON/COOL 2E, COBOL400, CL/400, CLLE, and DB2/400.
    • Develop and support RxCLAIM functionality and pharmacy claims adjudication processes, including complex business rules and system workflows.
    • Analyze existing application logic and implement major enhancements and modifications while preserving downstream system integrity.
    • Maintain, modernize, and improve AS/400 applications while developing new functionality to address evolving business requirements.
    • Develop and maintain integrations between RxCLAIM/AS400 applications and downstream healthcare and PBM systems.
    • Translate business requirements into technical designs, application changes, and reliable implementation plans.
    • Perform impact analysis to identify dependencies and prevent application changes from negatively affecting related processes or systems.
    • Troubleshoot complex production issues, investigate defects, identify root causes, and implement effective technical solutions.
    • Document system flows, application functionality, interfaces, technical designs, and complex business logic.
    • Conduct unit and integration testing and support system or user acceptance testing when required.
    • Collaborate with business analysts, QA professionals, technical teams, and healthcare/PBM stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
    • Take ownership of assigned development activities, work independently, meet project milestones, and provide technical guidance or leadership when needed.
    • Requirements

      • 5+ years of hands-on development experience with SYNON/COOL 2E, COBOL400, CL/400, CLLE, and DB2/400.
      • Strong practical experience working with RxCLAIM and pharmacy claims adjudication or claims-processing systems.
      • Solid understanding of healthcare and Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) processes, applications, and business requirements.
      • Demonstrated ability to analyze and modify complex claims-processing logic, workflows, and business rules.
      • Experience supporting integrations between RxCLAIM/AS400 environments and downstream healthcare systems.
      • Strong production support, troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis capabilities.
      • Ability to understand complex legacy applications and implement enhancements with minimal supervision.
      • Experience with major enhancements and modernization initiatives involving existing AS/400 healthcare applications.
      • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical design skills.
      • Ability to document complex application architecture, system flows, interfaces, and business logic clearly.
      • Willingness and ability to assume technical leadership responsibilities when required.
      • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with distributed teams in a remote environment.
      • Experience working within Agile or other structured development environments is desirable.
      • Familiarity with large-scale healthcare or PBM platforms and legacy modernization considerations is a plus.
      • Ability to participate in internal and external meetings through video conferencing and work onsite at corporate or client locations when necessary.
      • Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals who require support to perform essential job functions.
      • Benefits

        • Comprehensive healthcare benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage for eligible full-time employees.
        • Disability coverage and additional benefit options.
        • Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, transit, and dependent care expenses.
        • Employer-paid life insurance and AD&D coverage.
        • Health Savings Account paired with a low-cost High Deductible Medical Plan.
        • 401(k) Safe Harbor retirement plan with employer matching and immediate vesting.
        • Inclusive and respectful work environment that values diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
        • Support and reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment and employment process when needed.
