Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer based in United States.

The Software Engineer will help build and evolve modern product capabilities within an AI-first engineering environment.

This role focuses on developing scalable backend services, data pipelines, and reliable integration points using Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and AWS.

You will work from clear technical specifications and use AI-assisted engineering tools as an integral part of planning, implementation, testing, and code review.

The position combines hands-on software development with strong ownership of data quality, security, observability, and production reliability.

You will collaborate closely with Product, UX, DevOps, engineering, and leadership stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.

The ideal candidate is comfortable experimenting with emerging AI development practices while maintaining rigorous engineering standards and accountability for outcomes.

Accountabilities

• Design, develop, test, and ship scalable product features using Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, and PostgreSQL.
• Author clear technical specifications before implementation, incorporating team feedback and defining intent, design decisions, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools, including agentic coding platforms, throughout planning, implementation, testing, debugging, and code review while maintaining full ownership of code quality and correctness.
• Design database schemas and build reliable PostgreSQL data pipelines supporting ingestion, transformation, loading, and product functionality.
• Optimize database queries and data processing workflows for performance, reliability, scalability, and data quality.
• Integrate new features into existing applications and infrastructure while collaborating with DevOps teams on efficient and cost-effective AWS deployments.
• Support containerized application deployments using technologies and platforms such as ECS and Kubernetes.
• Apply strong data governance, security, privacy, and compliance practices when working with sensitive information.
• Review human- and AI-generated code as a quality gate, using code reviews as opportunities to improve engineering standards, implementation quality, and development practices.
• Collaborate with software engineers, Product Managers, UX professionals, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, training materials, and development guidance to support knowledge sharing and maintainability.
• Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and high engineering standards.
• Monitor production reliability, scalability, and observability while proactively identifying opportunities to improve system performance and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technical field.
• 4-5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with strong experience working with AWS-based environments.
• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript, with substantial experience developing backend services using Node.js.
• Strong PostgreSQL expertise, including database schema design, query optimization, and data pipeline development.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI-assisted or agentic software engineering tools such as Claude Code or comparable platforms.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development capabilities such as skill creation or invocation, Model Context Protocol integrations, and retrieval-augmented generation workflows.
• Proven experience with specification-driven development, including the ability to explain technical specifications you have authored and how they guided AI-assisted implementation.
• Strong code review capabilities, with the ability to evaluate both human- and AI-generated code and use reviews as a constructive teaching and quality-improvement process.
• Solid understanding of software development methodologies, Git-based version control, CI/CD practices, cloud computing, and modern software engineering principles.
• Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to decompose complex problems into manageable deliverables and develop effective technical approaches.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience contributing successfully within Agile development environments.
• Strong understanding of secure, scalable, and highly available software architecture and development practices.
• U.S. citizenship and current U.S. residency are required, with preference for candidates located in or willing to work Eastern Time hours.
• Willingness to complete a comprehensive pre-employment background verification process, including applicable employment, professional, reference, GitHub, and LinkedIn verification.
• Experience working remotely across countries and time zones is preferred.
• Experience serving large-scale enterprise customers and delivering secure, high-availability solutions is preferred.
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol, agentic workflows, pgvector or other vector search technologies is preferred.
• Experience integrating production LLMs, working with LLM APIs, prompt design, or AI-powered product features is preferred.
• Experience partnering directly with Product Managers through Agile ceremonies and planning sessions is preferred.
• Ability to receive, apply, and act constructively on feedback from peers and leadership.
