Jobgether is a Belgian recruitment platform built entirely around remote and flexible work, aggregating openings from thousands of employers that allow work from outside an office. Its matching engine ranks roles against a candidate's skills, seniority and stated preferences on location and flexibility, rather than leaving people to filter a keyword search, and it verifies how genuinely remote each posting is. The company also runs an AI screening layer that shortlists applicants for employers, and publishes research and guidance on distributed work practices alongside the job marketplace itself.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Image Processing Engineer based in United States.

This is a senior engineering opportunity focused on building advanced image processing and medical imaging solutions.

You will work across the full lifecycle of imaging algorithms, from data analysis and feature extraction to implementation and validation.

The role combines healthcare technology, distributed systems, and image processing to solve complex technical challenges.

You will develop scalable solutions using medical imaging standards such as DICOM and support interoperability across healthcare environments.

Your work will contribute to reliable systems that handle sensitive patient data while meeting demanding security and performance requirements.

You will also help shape technical direction, mentor engineers, and deliver features in a fast-moving DevOps environment.

This is an ideal role for an experienced engineer passionate about applying sophisticated imaging technologies to real-world healthcare applications

Accountabilities:

    • Develop, implement, and validate scalable image processing solutions for healthcare applications, with a strong focus on medical imaging and DICOM-based workflows.
    • Design and enhance algorithms for compression, segmentation, contour detection, feature extraction, classification, target detection, tracking, and related image processing capabilities.
    • Configure, implement, and troubleshoot DICOM services, including Store, Storage Commitment, Query/Retrieve, and Modality Worklist.
    • Build and support DICOM-based integrations and data migrations across healthcare systems, including interoperability workflows using IHE XDS standards.
    • Design distributed systems, data pipelines, platform APIs, DNS caching solutions, and other scalable cloud-based components.
    • Work with healthcare imaging ecosystems such as PACS, VNA, and RIS while ensuring reliable integration with clinical workflows.
    • Contribute across the complete software development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and production support.
    • Apply DevOps principles with a customer-first mindset, emphasizing secure, reliable, and scalable software delivery.
    • Protect the privacy, confidentiality, and security of sensitive patient information obtained through healthcare partnerships.
    • Drive complete features and technical initiatives while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a collaborative engineering culture.
    • Research emerging image processing approaches and communicate technical findings through reports, presentations, and visual representations of data.
    • Learn quickly, adapt to evolving product requirements, and iterate rapidly to improve solutions and user outcomes.
    • Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; a Master’s degree or Ph.D. is a plus.
      • At least 5 years of experience developing and integrating complex imaging systems and/or medical image diagnosis software.
      • Strong development experience with C# and/or C++.
      • At least 3 years of hands-on DICOM development and troubleshooting experience.
      • Strong knowledge of DICOM standards, with 3+ years of experience developing or extending DICOM servers such as dcm4che or Orthanc.
      • Experience developing healthcare technology components and workflows involving PACS, VNA, RIS, or similar systems.
      • Experience building DICOM-based integrations using IHE XDS standards for interoperability across healthcare environments.
      • Familiarity with DICOM and related healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 is a plus.
      • Hands-on experience with DICOM development and diagnostic tools such as DCMTK, JDICOM, or OpenDICOM.
      • Experience debugging native DLLs and working with binary data formats is advantageous.
      • Experience with containers and Kubernetes is a plus.
      • Strong understanding of secure, reliable, and scalable software architecture, particularly within cloud-based or distributed environments.
      • Ability to work effectively in a DevOps environment, collaborate across teams, and maintain a strong customer focus.
      • Strong problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
      • Demonstrated ability to mentor less-experienced engineers and take ownership of complex technical initiatives.
      • Benefits:

        • Senior-level opportunity working on advanced medical imaging and healthcare technology solutions.
        • Opportunity to work with sophisticated image processing algorithms, DICOM technologies, and healthcare interoperability systems.
        • Exposure to cloud-based architectures, distributed systems, data pipelines, APIs, containers, and DevOps practices.
        • Opportunity to contribute to products where reliability, scalability, security, and patient data privacy are critical.
        • Collaborative engineering environment with opportunities to mentor junior developers and influence technical direction.
        • Potential to work on emerging technologies involving 3D imaging, tracking, augmented reality, and virtual reality.
        • Remote opportunity based in the United States.
        • Compensation details are not specified in the provided job posting.
