Johnson Controls is seeking a hands-on technician to support HVAC control systems across programming, installation, commissioning, service, and preventative maintenance. In this role, you will work with mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage controls components while helping customers keep their systems operating reliably.
Role Overview
You will be part of an expanding team of skilled technicians supporting building automation and controls work in the field. This role combines technical problem-solving, customer communication, and documentation, with a strong focus on safe, high-quality service and dependable system performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform HVAC control systems programming, troubleshooting, installation, commissioning, and preventative maintenance.
- Respond to service and warranty calls using Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools, as well as hand tools, electrical testing meters, and other electronic testing equipment.
- Load Johnson Controls field and network level controller software.
- Perform commissioning and system diagnostics for controllers and end devices such as sensors and actuators.
- Provide front-line technical and repair support through effective communication with Johnson Controls customers.
- Recommend system repairs or updates and assist in presenting those recommendations to customers.
- Complete commissioning records, time sheets, expense reports, on-site documentation, and as-built updates.
- Keep management and the JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress, issues, arrival, and departure from the work site.
- Follow all safety standards and attend required safety training.
How You Will Do It
- Own each assignment with accountability, safety, and integrity from start to finish.
- Stay close to the work by understanding the customer’s system, sequence, and symptoms before making changes.
- Use commissioning tools, diagnostics, and test equipment methodically to isolate issues and verify performance.
- Communicate clearly with customers, contractors, and management so progress, risks, and next steps are always understood.
- Improve every day by learning from service calls, applying what you learn, and sharing practical ideas that strengthen the team.
- Work as one team by supporting colleagues, building trust, and escalating obstacles early when help is needed.
- Execute company-sponsored and self-initiated training to keep your technical knowledge current and relevant.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience with BAS, Honeywell, Siemens, Tridium, Trane, Automated, or similar building automation systems.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, sequences, and applications.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude in mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical fields.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment such as a multimeter.
- Solid computer skills and comfort using personal computers for commissioning and documentation tasks.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in service, testing, and recordkeeping.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Ability to work safely in customer environments and complete administrative tasks correctly.
Nice to Have
- Experience with low-voltage 0-24 volts and 120-volt wiring.
- Experience testing, troubleshooting, and checking systems with a multimeter.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and Visio.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $35.29 - $48.51 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
