Role Overview
As M&A Business Development Manager, you will work across business units and senior stakeholders to spot growth opportunities, build investment cases and help move priority transactions and partnerships forward. You will combine market insight, financial analysis and cross-functional coordination to support Johnson Controls' corporate development objectives.
What you will do
- Identify and evaluate inorganic growth opportunities across adjacent markets, new lines of business and strategic partnership opportunities.
- Conduct market research, segmentation and competitive analysis to support growth theses and target prioritization.
- Develop business cases, investment theses and executive presentations for senior leadership review.
- Support M&A activity from early-stage opportunity screening through diligence, negotiation and execution support.
- Partner with finance, legal, strategy, operations and business unit teams to assess strategic fit, value creation potential and integration considerations.
- Prepare financial models, valuation analysis and data-driven growth projections to support decision-making.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, entrepreneurs, investors and external advisors as needed.
- Monitor market trends, emerging technologies and competitor activity to inform the inorganic growth pipeline.

What we look for
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, engineering or a related field.
- Experience in corporate development, M&A, strategic business development, investment banking, private equity or a similar role.
- Strong financial analysis, valuation and modeling skills.
- Experience preparing business cases, market assessments and executive-level presentations.
- Ability to collect, evaluate and synthesize market trends, competitive landscapes and growth opportunities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple workstreams across functions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or a relevant finance qualification such as CIMA, ACA or ACCA.
- Experience in the technology, industrial or building solutions sector.
- Exposure to strategic partnerships, joint ventures or post-deal integration activities.
