Healthcare Assistant Chief Engineer - JLL

What this job involves:

The Healthcare Assistant Chief Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation and maintenance of critical building systems across assigned healthcare facilities. Under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer and oversight by senior leadership, you will lead a union team of skilled trades professionals-including HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and building maintenance workers-to deliver exceptional operational performance. This position requires deep technical expertise across multiple craft areas and the ability to mentor team members while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance in a healthcare environment. Your work directly supports patient care and JLL's commitment to operational excellence, making this a rewarding opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic, mission-critical setting. This is a Local 399 Union position

What your day-to-day will look like:

• Oversee maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems under Chief Engineer supervision, ensuring optimal facility performance
• Supervise and manage engineering and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and coordinating across first-shift and third-shift teams
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to maintain operational reliability
• Diagnose, inspect, repair, and maintain HVAC equipment including compressors, chillers, and cooling towers
• Conduct facility rounds, report on conditions impacting operations, and enter work orders for resolution using CMMS work order system
• Provide hands-on training in maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures to develop team capabilities
• Lead safety policies and procedures with strict attention to detail, adhering to all regulatory, healthcare, and hospital requirements supporting safe operation and patient care

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of applicable working experience in general building repair, maintenance, and engineering with a strong background in technical aspects of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, and overall system design and application
• Essential experience in healthcare environment
• Valid Stationary Engineers License in the City of Chicago, and any other licenses as required by authority having jurisdiction
• Universal CFC certification required
• Multi-skilled technical expertise with ability to repair, maintain, restore, and replace various building operational components independently

Preferred Qualifications:

• Additional certifications (electrical, plumbing, OSHA, etc.)
• Ability to use a computer and smartphone with multiple email accounts
• Effective use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel), Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS - Corrigo a plus), and other internet-based software
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation
• Experience supervising union workforce (Local 399)

Location: Onsite, Chicago,IL

Work Shift: Sunday - Thursday 6:00am to 2:00pm

Salary: $53.58/hr

Expected compensation for this position:

111,467.00 - 111,467.00 USD per year

Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
