Technical Director - Tétris London
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Technical Director is responsible for providing technical leadership and direction across Tétris London’s workplace Design & Build projects, ensuring that design solutions are technically robust, compliant, commercially viable and capable of being successfully delivered on site. Working closely with the Design, Pre-Construction, Commercial teams, the Technical Director will provide technical oversight from early design and tender through to construction and completion, identifying and managing technical risks, coordinating design information, supporting buildability and ensuring projects meet the required quality, programme and commercial objectives.
The role will also have responsibility for the financial management and monitoring of design fees, The role will also have responsibility for the financial management and monitoring of design fees, using Tétris’ in-house financial monitoring tools to ensure design fees are accurately captured throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with the Head of Design, the Technical Director will ensure agreed design fees are appropriately recorded, monitored and invoiced, with any changes to scope or fee requirements identified and addressed in a timely manner. The role will also be responsible for developing and maintaining technical standards, processes and best practice across the business, while providing technical leadership and mentoring to the wider team.
KNOWLEDGE
- Strong knowledge of workplace interiors and Design & Build delivery within the London commercial sector.
- Detailed understanding of construction methodology, buildability and the practical delivery of interior projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Planning, Building Control and relevant statutory requirements.
- Good understanding of CDM Regulations and designer responsibilities within the Design & Build environment.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, procurement routes and the relationship between design, commercial and construction delivery.
- Understanding of cost, value engineering, programme and commercial implications of technical design decisions.
- Understanding of MEP services and their coordination with architectural and interior design.
- Knowledge of technical risk management and the identification, mitigation and communication of design and construction risks.
- Understanding of technical information requirements throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and tender through to construction and handover.
- Awareness of current industry standards, legislation, sustainability requirements and best practice within workplace interiors.
EXPERIENCE
- Significant experience working within a Design & Build contractor, construction company or commercial interiors environment.
- Extensive experience delivering workplace interior projects in London.
- Proven experience providing technical leadership across multiple projects and project teams.
- Experience taking projects from design development and pre-construction through to construction and completion.
- Experience reviewing and coordinating design information to ensure it is technically complete, compliant and buildable.
- Experience identifying technical risks, design constraints and coordination issues at an early stage and developing appropriate solutions.
- Experience working closely with designers, project managers, commercial teams and subcontractors.
- Experience supporting tender and pre-construction activities, including technical reviews, buildability, scope definition and value engineering.
- Experience managing technical queries, design changes and coordination issues during construction.
- Experience establishing and implementing technical standards, processes and quality controls.
- Experience mentoring and developing technical team members and providing clear technical direction.
- Experience working collaboratively with senior leadership to improve project delivery, technical quality and business performance.
