With a strong pipeline of work across the Defence, Water, Energy and Resources sectors, KBR is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Adelaide team.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of technically complex projects, lead the delivery of mechanical engineering solutions, and mentor developing engineers while working alongside some of the industry's most experienced professionals.

You'll play a key role across the full project lifecycle, supporting major infrastructure and industrial projects from concept development through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.

The Opportunity:

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of projects, with a particular focus on industrial facilities, process infrastructure and gas storage and supply systems.

Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams, you'll oversee engineering outcomes, review designs, support project delivery and contribute to the continued growth of KBR's engineering capability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical engineering design activities across all project stages.
  • Define scopes of work and provide technical input during project planning.
  • Prepare and review concept, preliminary and detailed designs.
  • Review and provide assurance of contractor-produced engineering designs.
  • Develop technical specifications and equipment selections.
  • Support construction activities through site inspections, testing and commissioning reviews.
  • Review vendor documentation, technical submissions and shop drawings.
  • Mentor engineers and provide guidance across project teams.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, tools and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build strong client relationships and identify opportunities to add value.

About You:

You are a Chartered or aspiring Chartered Mechanical Engineer with experience delivering complex engineering projects within consulting, industrial, defence, resources, energy or infrastructure

You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong experience in mechanical engineering design and project delivery.
  • Experience with gas storage, gas supply infrastructure and piping systems.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant Australian standards and engineering practices.
  • Experience leading technical outcomes and coordinating stakeholder requirements.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • CPEng status or the ability to obtain Chartership.

Security Requirements:

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • Be eligible to obtain and maintain a Baseline Defence Security Clearance.
  • Meet International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) eligibility requirements.
