About John Holland

At John Holland, our purpose is simple: we transform lives with everything we do.

We know infrastructure is about people - our customers, our employees and the communities we work in every day. That's what sets us apart: deep expertise, proven capability and a genuine commitment to creating better outcomes for people along the way.

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our Perth based team.

You will work closely with engineering teams, project leaders and client stakeholders to define work sites, build robust work packages, manage risk and develop sequencing strategies that make sense in the real world - not just on paper. It is a hands-on, high-impact role suited to an experienced engineer who can bring structure to ambiguity, confidence to planning, and momentum to the delivery of essential rail infrastructure.

Experience:

-Extensive experience in rail infrastructure planning, engineering, construction, or asset renewal programmes.

-Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary scope development and work package planning.

-Strong understanding of rail possession planning, operational interface management, and constructability principles.

-Experience developing delivery strategies for major infrastructure projects.

-Proven stakeholder management and facilitation skills across client, contractor, and technical teams.

-Experience using Primavera P6, Power BI, GIS systems, and engineering management systems.

-Knowledge of PTA, Network Rail, or equivalent rail asset management and engineering assurance frameworks.

Main function of the role:

Coordinate the development of detailed work scopes and delivery methodologies for each RRP Work Site and Work Package, forming the basis of the overall Delivery Plan. This includes leading the engineering scoping program and coordinating Work Package staging and programming to inform and support the possession strategy.

Key accountabilities:

-Plan and review rail corridor scoping requirements, incorporating desktop analysis, onsite validation, and detailed onsite scoping

-Engage and collaborate with core engineering disciplines to ensure the integration of comprehensive scopes of work

-Determine material quantity requirements to support the planning of long lead-time items, materials logistics, and cost estimation

-Consult and collaborate with PTA to inform prioritisation of track sections and assets to be renewed

-Lead the development and delivery of the RRP Delivery Plan

-Through analysis of PTA’s RRP Work Bank and, as directed by the principal, identify in collaboration engineering scope components and extents for inclusion in individual Work Packages

-Create and manage the RRP Work Bank

-Define Work Sites and Work Packages to support detailed project planning

-Estimate materials, costs, and resource requirements for project execution

-Plan and execute investigations scoping to support project objectives

-Identify and manage risks associated with project delivery

-Develop and implement constructability and works sequencing strategies to ensure efficient and effective project execution

-Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures

About you / position requirements:

-Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent.

-Minimum 10 years’ post-graduate engineering experience, including at least 4 years in a site-based role.

-Experience delivering major infrastructure projects valued above $50 million.

-Strong project engineering and operational experience.

-Advanced commercial acumen, including cost control, cost reduction and budget management.

-Understanding of safety, quality, environmental and design management plans.

-Excellent stakeholder management, time management and client relationship skills.

What we offer:

-Competitive salary and benefits, including salary continuance and salary sacrifice options.

-Flexible work arrangements and generous leave, including 18 weeks paid parental leave.

-Career development through technical, leadership and emerging talent programs.

-Opportunities to work on some of Australia's most iconic projects.

-A diverse and inclusive culture where everyone feels they belong.

-Wellbeing support and benefits designed to help you thrive.

With expertise spanning engineering, construction and operations, we're delivering the projects and services that keep communities moving. From rail, roads and bridges to hospitals and stadiums, we've helped shape Australia through iconic projects. You'll even see us operating buses, trains and trams.

Be part of a team that's up for the challenge of transforming lives.
