This is a 100% remote position, with an opportunity to work a hybrid schedule for candidates based in the El Dorado Hills, CA metro area.

About the Job

As the Senior Software Engineer and Team Lead for Commander, you will own technical direction and execution across Keeper’s Python and .NET SDKs, Commander CLI and related developer automation capabilities.

You will remain deeply hands-on in architecture, coding, debugging and design while also guiding a small team of engineers and raising engineering standards across the platform. You will work closely with Product, QA, Security and other engineering teams to ensure Commander remains secure, reliable, extensible and easy to integrate into modern DevOps and enterprise workflows. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building developer-facing tools, APIs and automation platforms and who can move comfortably between low-level implementation details and broader architecture decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Define and drive the technical architecture and long-term direction of Keeper Commander, including SDKs, CLI tooling and automation capabilities
• Design, build and maintain secure, scalable SDKs and developer tools across Python and .NET
• Lead development of CLI features, APIs and integrations used by enterprise administrators, developers and DevOps teams
• Architect integrations with CI/CD platforms, cloud services, infrastructure automation tools and enterprise systems
• Establish technical standards for SDK design, versioning, compatibility, error handling, testing and documentation
• Write high-quality production code and remain actively involved in complex feature development and troubleshooting
• Lead architecture reviews, design discussions and technical decision-making across the Commander codebase
• Partner with Product to translate customer needs and platform priorities into scalable technical solutions
• Collaborate with Security and QA teams to strengthen secure coding, testing, reliability and release quality
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving performance, concurrency, authentication, integrations and distributed workflows
• Improve developer experience across APIs, documentation, examples, tooling and onboarding
• Support and grow the Commander open-source ecosystem through pull request reviews, issue triage, community engagement and documentation
• Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance and raise engineering standards through code reviews and design feedback
• Help plan and sequence technical initiatives, balancing product delivery with platform maintainability and technical debt
• Evaluate new technologies and patterns that improve SDK performance, security, extensibility and developer productivity
• Use AI-assisted tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot or similar platforms to accelerate coding, debugging, technical research, testing and documentation

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant hands-on development with Python and .NET
• Strong experience building SDKs, APIs, CLIs, developer tools, automation frameworks or platform integrations
• Proven ability to design and evolve software architectures used by external developers or enterprise customers
• Strong understanding of API design, backward compatibility, versioning and developer experience
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP and associated APIs and security services
• Familiarity with DevOps and infrastructure automation tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible or Azure DevOps
• Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, secrets management, encryption and secure software development
• Experience designing and troubleshooting distributed or integration-heavy systems
• Strong debugging skills across application, API, network and integration layers
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD and release engineering practices
• Experience contributing to, maintaining or supporting open-source software
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction without relying solely on formal authority
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
• Ability and willingness to use AI-assisted tools effectively for software development, debugging, research and documentation
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Due to this role’s involvement in GovCloud environments, qualified candidates must be a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading a small engineering team or serving as a technical lead
• Experience with secrets management, privileged access management, identity security or cybersecurity platforms
• Experience with Go, PowerShell or other automation-oriented languages
• Experience developing cross-platform software for Linux, Windows and macOS
• Familiarity with AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault, GCP Secret Manager or similar cloud security services
• Experience with package distribution, dependency management and SDK release workflows
• Contributions to widely used SDKs, CLI tools, developer platforms or DevOps automation projects
• Experience designing public APIs or developer-facing integration platforms

7. Retention

We keep your data for 24 months from your last application activity, then delete or anonymize it.

• You opt into our talent database for further retention by providing consent (extended retention)
