Backend Developer

The core responsibilities for the job include the following:

Backend Development and API Engineering:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, Express.js, TypeScript, and Azure Functions.
• Build secure, high-performance RESTful APIs and event-driven services to support enterprise applications.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases, schemas, queries, and data models for scalability and performance.
• Develop microservices and serverless applications using Microsoft Azure cloud services.
• Implement authentication, authorization, security best practices, and reliable backend architectures.
• Ensure application reliability, scalability, observability, and performance through effective engineering practices.

AI and Intelligent Application Development:

• Integrate Large Language Models (LLMs) such as Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, and similar AI services into business applications.
• Develop AI-powered workflows, including document processing, conversational assistants, intelligent search, and workflow automation solutions.
• Design and implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions using embeddings and vector databases.
• Build AI agents capable of performing business tasks and orchestrating complex workflows.
• Evaluate and optimize prompts, AI-generated outputs, and model performance.
• Implement AI governance practices, including guardrails, monitoring, security controls, and usage management.

Cloud Platform and System Integration:

• Develop and deploy cloud-native applications using Microsoft Azure services.
• Design and implement integrations with third-party platforms through APIs, webhooks, and event-driven architectures.
• Build backend services and data pipelines supporting AI, analytics, and enterprise workloads.
• Work closely with frontend, product, and AI teams to deliver scalable end-to-end solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and engineering decisions.

Database Design and Performance Optimization:

• Design efficient PostgreSQL database structures and optimize queries for large-scale applications.
• Implement best practices for database performance, indexing, security, and reliability.
• Work with ORM technologies such as Prisma for efficient application development.
• Ensure data consistency, availability, and scalability across distributed systems.

Engineering Excellence and Development Practices:

• Write unit tests, integration tests, and automated test suites to ensure application quality.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to junior developers.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines and follow DevOps best practices.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar platforms to improve engineering productivity.
• Follow Agile methodologies, coding standards, and software engineering best practices.

Distributed Systems and Architecture:

• Design and develop scalable microservices-based architectures.
• Work with event-driven systems, message queues, and asynchronous processing frameworks.
• Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and maintainability of backend systems.
• Contribute to technical roadmap discussions for AI-enabled product capabilities.

AI Frameworks and Modern Development Practices:

• Develop solutions using AI frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, or similar technologies.
• Work with vector databases such as Qdrant and Azure AI Search for AI-powered applications.
• Build and optimize AI agent workflows and orchestration frameworks.
• Apply prompt engineering techniques to improve AI accuracy and performance.
• Follow responsible AI practices, including security, governance, and compliance standards.

Product and Platform Ownership:

• Take ownership of backend components supporting enterprise SaaS applications.
• Develop scalable solutions supporting thousands of users and complex business workflows.
• Contribute to improving system performance, reliability, and developer productivity.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality product features.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• 5-9 years of experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js, Express.js, TypeScript, and REST API development.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Functions and Microsoft Azure cloud services.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL database design and optimization.
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience integrating AI/LLM services such as Azure OpenAI, OpenAI APIs, or Anthropic.
• Understanding of prompt engineering, RAG architectures, vector databases, and AI agents.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and modern software engineering practices.
• Strong understanding of Git, Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with Azure AI Foundry / Azure AI Studio.
• Knowledge of messaging platforms such as Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or Event Hub.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized deployments.
• Exposure to MLOps concepts and AI model deployment practices.
• Experience building SaaS, enterprise applications, or multi-tenant platforms.
• Knowledge of GraphQL and event-driven architectures.
• Experience in HR tech, FinTech, compensation management, ESOP, or enterprise SaaS products.
• Experience building conversational AI, chatbots, and AI-powered workflow automation platforms.
