Traveling Assistant Project Manager-Structural Steel

Our client is an established structural steel erection contractor with a growing portfolio of commercial and industrial projects. The company works closely with general contractors, field teams, vendors, and project partners to deliver complex steel erection projects safely and efficiently.

With continued growth and an expanding project pipeline, the company is looking for an early-career construction professional who wants to build a strong foundation in project management while gaining hands-on exposure to active jobsites and experienced project leaders.

About the Position

We are seeking a Traveling Assistant Project Manager - Structural Steel to support experienced Project Managers and field leaders throughout the full project lifecycle, from handoff through closeout.

This is a field-facing, salaried position with travel. You will gain firsthand experience learning how drawings, schedules, budgets, materials, equipment, and crews come together to execute structural steel projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, and contract requirements and help identify potential issues before they affect field operations
• Support Project Managers and field leaders with day-to-day project coordination
• Coordinate equipment, materials, deliveries, and information needed by field crews
• Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, and project updates
• Assist with purchase orders, subcontracts, cost tracking, and field productivity reporting
• Visit active jobsites and communicate with general contractors, vendors, field personnel, and project teams
• Help monitor project schedules, documentation, and overall progress
• Learn and apply structural steel project management processes under the guidance of experienced leaders
• Support project closeout and ensure required documentation is completed

Requirements

• Recent graduates and candidates with approximately 0-3 years of commercial construction experience are encouraged to apply
• Construction internships and co-op experience will be considered
• Four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field preferred
• Relevant construction experience may be considered in place of a degree
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings
• Familiarity with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Experience with construction/project management software is a plus
• Structural steel experience is helpful but not required
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and follow-through
• Willingness to travel and work on active construction jobsites
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, field-oriented environment
