We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to design, operate, and optimize a high-availability network infrastructure supporting mid-frequency trading operations. The role is critical to ensuring resilient connectivity across internal networks, global exchanges, co-location facilities, and inter-office links in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with enterprise and trading-grade networking, L2/L3 troubleshooting, multicast market data distribution, and operational support in production systems.
The core responsibilities for the job include the following:
Network Design and Operations:
- Design, manage, and optimize high-availability network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and QoS policies for trading and corporate environments.
- Ensure reliable, low-latency connectivity between internal systems, global exchanges, co-location sites, and inter-office networks.
- Configure and maintain multicast routing (PIM, IGMP) for market data distribution and order execution systems.
Trading and Co-Location Support
- Manage connectivity with domestic and international exchanges across multiple regions.
- Oversee co-location site operations, including power, space, rack capacity planning, access management, vendor coordination, and procurement.
- Act as a technical point of contact for telecom providers, data center operators, and hardware vendors.
Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Support:
- Provide L2/L3 production support in a live trading environment.
- Monitor network performance and availability; proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Troubleshoot complex network problems using tools such as Wireshark, Tcpdump, Iperf, and SNMP-based monitoring systems.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
Automation and Continuous Improvement:
- Automate network configuration, deployment, and monitoring tasks using Python and/or shell scripting.
- Perform firmware upgrades, configuration changes, and capacity planning with minimal downtime.
- Drive continuous improvements in network reliability, performance, and scalability.
Systems and Collaboration:
- Provide basic support for Linux-based trading systems (Ubuntu/CentOS), including hardware changes, OS-level configuration, and application support as required.
- Maintain accurate documentation for network architecture, configurations, procedures, and incident logs.
- Collaborate closely with trading desks, quant teams, system administrators, and external vendors.
- Travel occasionally to co-location or data center sites as business needs require.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related IT discipline.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering or network support roles.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, BGP, OSPF, and network security fundamentals.
- Experience working in high-availability or mission-critical environments; exposure to trading or financial services is highly desirable.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Hands-on experience with Cisco and/or Arista routers and switches.
- Experience managing firewalls, VPNs, and network security policies.
- Strong knowledge of multicast networking (PIM, RP, MSDP, IGMP).
- Good to have CCNA / CCNP (Routing and Switching) certification or equivalent practical knowledge.
- Proficiency with Linux systems (Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL).
- Experience with network automation using Python or shell scripting.
- Familiarity with performance and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, and Iperf.
- Ability to work under pressure in time-sensitive environments with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
