About the role
Employment law rarely stays the same from one market to the next - what works in one can create real problems in another. As Klarna's legal team handles employment matters across multiple markets, you'll work in a genuinely international setting: handling individual cases, projects, and labour relations across a range of jurisdictions.
You'll be UK-based, working closely with our Head of Employment Law and Labour Relations, who is based in Sweden. You'll be part of the Legal domain, but day to day you'll mostly be working with your stakeholders in the People domain.
We're looking for someone who thrives working independently and who is confident in owning decisions rather than just executing on instruction.
What you'll do
You'll advise the business on employment law and labour relations matters in the jurisdictions where Klarna has employees - primarily, EU, the UK and North America.
You'll draft, review, and adapt employment-related documentation and policies to match each jurisdiction's specific rules.
You'll manage individual employee matters across the full employment lifecycle.
You'll manage relationships with employee representatives and unions as part of Klarna's labour relations work.
You'll support projects across the business that need employment law considerations and input.
Who you are
You have around 3-5 years' experience practicing employment law.
You're qualified (or equivalently experienced) in UK employment law.
You've been exposed to the cross-border and global aspects of employment law, not just a single-market view.
You're comfortable managing your own caseload day to day, and keen to keep building your judgment through hands-on experience.
Bonus points for
You've advised on employment law in more than one jurisdiction.
Experience practicing employment law in-house - either directly, or through a secondment from a law firm into an in-house team.
Experience with US employment law, alongside the UK.
Experience advising on remuneration and compensation structures in a regulated financial institution (e.g. EBA/CRD-type remuneration rules).
A background at a larger law firm.
Experience at a fast-moving, modern company with a lean HR function - fintech or tech more broadly.
