Introduction

The world is at your feet as a Corporate Internal Control Account Manager at KLM. You’ll help raise risk awareness among KLM colleagues and drive process improvements, with internal control as a fundamental requirement. You’ll also join an environment where you can help shape the foundations of the Finance organisation. With such a wide variety of roles, departments and colleagues, KLM gives you the opportunity to go beyond what you thought possible. Every single day.

What are you going to do?

You will improve KLM’s internal control environment by working closely with KLM’s Business Units. You will help the Business Units improve the efficiency, standardisation and quality of Internal Control over Financial Reporting and Internal Control over Sustainability (ESG) Reporting, and provide support on compliance matters. KLM has a framework for internal control activities, known as the Internal Control Framework (ICF).

You will work closely with the Internal Control Coordinators of KLM’s divisions and Business Units, as well as Transavia.

Together with three colleagues, you will take on the challenge of strengthening KLM’s internal control as a key component of the “In Control Statement” issued by the KLM Board in the KLM Group annual report. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into every part of KLM’s business. You will also provide internal control expertise and support across KLM, and assess the design and operating effectiveness of the controls that KLM business management has implemented under its own responsibility to address identified risks.

Internal Control is evolving rapidly and, as part of the “Fundamentals Right” objective, is a key priority for what the Finance function at KLM aims to achieve. You will help make this development a shared success for both the Business and Finance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out ICF activities for KLM Business Units.
  • Contribute to improving the quality of the ICF process, and coordinate and monitor progress on all ICF deliverables.
  • Support the Business Units and act as a sparring partner in identifying risks and related controls.
  • Assist in evaluating KLM ICF Entity Level Controls (ELCs), Transaction Level Controls (TLCs) and IT General Controls (ITGCs), including through assessments, testing and reviews.
  • Monitor the follow-up of internal and external audit findings within KLM Business Units.

Where do you land?

You’ll join a dynamic, international team within the Corporate Control department, where you’ll work alongside colleagues with expertise in Internal Control. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop both personally and professionally. You’ll work closely with your Internal Control team and report to the Director of IFRS & Internal Control.

Your profile

You have experience in internal control and know how to set priorities. You can analyse complex topics and take an organised, business-aware approach to achieving the best results. You value transparency and structure, and you’re proactive and hands-on. You’re excellent at building and maintaining relationships with people at all levels. You also take initiative and are able to see the bigger picture when it comes to business processes.

You also have:

  • A bachelor’s or university degree in Accounting, Business Economics or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant work experience.
  • Preferably, experience in auditing and audit techniques.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting, accounting principles and process design.
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English.
