About the Role

LEEP is seeking an experienced program leader to drive our lead paint elimination program in Indonesia. Working at the intersection of government policy, public health and industry engagement, you will build relationships with government stakeholders, support the development and implementation of lead paint regulation, and work with paint manufacturers to transition to lead-free products. Read more about our approach here.

This role is for someone who understands how to work effectively with the government in Indonesia, can navigate complex stakeholder relationships, and is comfortable taking initiative to turn ambitious goals into practical progress. You will have the autonomy to lead workstreams, solve problems and represent LEEP credibly with government and industry partners. A successful candidate will be one who is highly autonomous, has strong interpersonal skills, and who shares LEEP’s values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with governments to introduce and implement lead paint regulation (30%)
    • Engaging with policy-makers across multiple ministries and agencies, maintaining relationships that support progress towards program goals
    • Working with government partners to plan and advance regulatory activities, taking account of their priorities, processes and constraints
    • Preparing advocacy communications, educational resources, and presentations to support government decision-making
    • Representing LEEP in government meetings and stakeholder workshops, communicating evidence and recommendations effectively
    • Project planning with government partners
    • Conducting training, providing technical input and follow-up support to help partners progress agreed activities
  • Industry assistance (30%)
    • Engaging with all manufacturers in Indonesia, both large companies and small- and medium-sized enterprises
    • Presenting the case for lead paint phase-out and how LEEP can support
    • Working in collaboration with LEEP’s paint technologist to find solutions to manufacturers’ requirements
    • Finding suppliers of non-lead based raw materials
  • Strategy and planning (15%)
    • Designing a project plan to meet LEEP’s goals and considering stakeholders’ requirements
    • Troubleshooting any program blockers and identifying creative solutions
    • Sharing learnings with the LEEP team and constantly improving our programs
  • Research and data collection (10%)
    • Conducting paint studies: finding and purchasing paints, preparing samples, and sending them to the lab, in collaboration with government partners
    • Preparing study reports and summarising existing literature
  • Recruitment, partnership building and management (5%)
    • Recruiting local consultants and/or building partnerships with local organisations, and managing these relationships
  • Engage in weekly all-hands calls, program team meetings and 1-1s with your manager (10%)

What We’re Looking For

  • Passion for LEEP’s mission and a strong commitment to achieving meaningful, scalable impact
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust with diverse stakeholders, understand their perspectives, address concerns and work towards shared objectives
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Experience engaging and working effectively with government institutions in Indonesia, with an understanding of how to navigate institutional priorities, stakeholder relationships and decision-making processes
  • Ability to identify barriers to progress, exercise sound judgement and develop practical solutions in ambiguous environments
  • Strong prioritisation skills, with a clear sense of how work ties into LEEP’s broader goals
  • Enterprising, a quick learner, and creative problem-solver
  • Comfort with risk and ambiguity, and working with a high level of self-direction
  • Ability to remain focused and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, international team while collaborating effectively with colleagues and external partners
  • Willing to travel for at least 8 to 12 weeks per year (mostly within Indonesia)
  • Full professional proficiency in English

Other promising attributes:

  • Full professional proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia is preferred but not required
  • Experience living and/or working in low- and middle-income countries
