Leidos is an American technology and engineering services company created in 2013 when Science Applications International Corporation split in two, with Leidos taking the technical services and solutions business. It is one of the largest suppliers to the United States government, working across defence programmes, intelligence systems, civil agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration, and healthcare services for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the company also builds security detection products for airports and borders, and has concentrated recent investment on trusted artificial intelligence and autonomy for mission environments.

Leidos has an exciting career opportunity for a Field Service Engineer (FSE) supporting the INDOPACOM area of responsibility (AOR). This position is based in Okinawa, Japan, with approximately 75% travel throughout Japan and the broader INDOPACOM AOR.

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

This position will support the Radio Frequency In-Transit Visibility (RF-ITV) program as a Field Service Engineer (FSE) within the INDOPACOM area of responsibility with primary responsibility for sites in Japan and support to Hawaii and other locations across the INDOPACOM AOR, as mission requirements dictate. This is an opportunity to use your Information Technology experience and troubleshooting skills. In this mission, we support the U.S. Army Capability Program Executive, Enterprise Software and Services (CPE ES2) / Logistics Information Systems (LIS) office in sustaining the RF-ITV enterprise infrastructure that provides authoritative in-transit visibility of military cargo moving through the Defense Transportation System (DTS). Limited, mission-dependent telework may be authorized when customer-site presence or travel is not required. The FSE serves as the local RF-ITV subject matter expert and provides training, technical support, and briefings to military commands.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:

  • Must have an active Secret security clearance. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Engage directly with DoW customers to understand supported logistics processes, identify mission requirements, and recommend RF-ITV solutions that improve operational in-transit visibility.
  • Provide independent oversight and responsibility for assigned RF-ITV read nodes within the AOR and support achievement of the program Operational Readiness (OR) objective of 97%.
  • Provide technical advice, guidance, and recommendations on RF-ITV infrastructure within the Area of Responsibility (AOR).
  • Install, upgrade, replace, and maintain RFID hardware and software to integrate RFID nodes into the local US military commands’ networks to ensure interoperability and sustainability.
  • Support Next Generation Transponder (NGT) Tags, Portable Deployment Kits (PDK) and all write software to include but not limited to TIPS-Write.
  • Use reporting, collaboration, and communications tools such as the RF-ITV In-Transit Visibility (ITV) Portal, Integrated Support System (ISS), the ITV Global Helpdesk and the Daily ITV Report to analyze health of the system and determine solutions for problem areas.
  • Respond to system outages, resolve problems within the time specified in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and record all progress in ISS Service Management Ticket (SMTs).
  • Ensure compliance with all local command procedural and policy requirements.
  • Independently perform Global Operations missions, including site surveys, installations, de-installations, formal classroom instruction, and exercise support/training; provide required Government customer reports upon mission completion.
  • Configure Field Data Units (FDUs) with a baseline that includes a Windows operating system, RFID applications, Remote Desktop Management software, security policies, and patches.
  • Inform team members of new or innovative solution design so these approaches can be implemented across the program.
  • Apply in-depth technical knowledge of active RFID wave propagation and understanding of ISO 18000-7 Over-the-Air protocol and collaborate with other FSEs to discuss and validate solutions.
  • Analyze DoW logistics processes to recommend optimal placement and employment of RF-ITV systems.
  • Ensure Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) assets are physically secure and accounted for, as well as being accurately documented in the ISS database.
  • Responsible for all GFE asset lifecycle activity including requesting, receiving, maintaining, Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA), and retiring/disposal of the assets as required for RF-ITV infrastructure operations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of applicable experience or associate degree with 7 years of applicable experience.
  • Current driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and ability to drive for up to eight to ten hours when mission requirements dictate.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder or ascend at least 25 feet in a lift (bucket) truck.
  • Possess intermediate computer skills and knowledge such as operating and troubleshooting hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Remote Management Software, Windows 10/11 and Antivirus Software.
  • Must possess at least a DoD Directive 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II (such as CompTIA Security+ CE) certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience installing, upgrading and/or replacing RFID hardware and software to include Field Data Units (FDUs), fixed and handheld interrogators, Iridium modems, and various versions of RFID Read and Write software.
  • Prior experience briefing DoW customers and providing classroom and over-the-shoulder training for up to 25 people.
  • Familiarity with TIPS Read/Write software.
  • Familiarity with the MicroFocus (formerly Serena) Solutions Business Manager (SBM) software.
